Having recently acquired three OM lenses, I am looking at buying lens hoods for the 28 and 50mm. The 135 takes care of itself as the hood is built in.
Other than the original Olympus hoods (some rubber, some metal, some screw in, others clip on & tighten with a screw) does anyone have experience of using other manufacturers/third party rectangular or petal shaped hoods? If so, I would appreciate reccommendations. I have heard that one of the Pentax hoods (for their 50mm) fits but it is nigh on impossible to verify this just by looking at "for sale" ads.
Many thanks.

Pentax 50mm hood will indeed work on the OM 50mm, they are both 49mm thread. You can actually use quite a deep hood, longer than is on the 135mm in fact, on the 50mm. A petal hood will be more hassle than it's worth as it will need to screw in, so getting it aligned correctly will always be a bit fiddly. The Olympus wide angle lenses have a lamp shade like conical metal hood like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Olympus-M...705821?hash=item2387e3c1dd:g:0QAAAOSwq~tZU-Je

I just buy cheap metal RF style hoods off evil bay. They seem to work ok.

Many thanks. I will take on board what you say about a petal hood and give this a wide berth. I do like the look of the Pentax 50mm hood, though.

Thanks. Any particular brand/make?

No, just whatever is available on the day as long as it's black rather than silver. I have a little box full to fit all my lenses but to be honest I find that I hardly ever use them. Maybe the fact that these old lenses are rather small compared to the large diameter lenses we tend to have today makes them a little flare resistant?

I use the 35,28 and 50, original olympus ones, the wide ones are shallower and have greater flare to the shape than the one for the 50.
I also have an olympus 85 but no lens, if any one is hunting for an original.
