Yes
Hi folks :)
Would anyone recommend using a lens hood/filter for the Canon kit 18-55mm IS lens?

Lens hood yes, filter no.

Unless you mean filters like ND grads or a polariser, then yes, when the scene calls for it.

Hello TCR :) Thanks for the message
Tidy! I'm searching through ebay at the mo & theres alot of petal hoods..would these be okay to use with a rotating lens?

No don't use a petal hood on it, you'll end up finding that the cutouts are in the wrong place. Just get a solid one. Still can't understand why canon don't include them with the lenses.

Money!

They include them with L lenses to make you feel better about the price!

As above really, I'd def recommend to use a hood and not to bother with a "normal filter"

I'd also recommend you buy the hood specially for the lens - its an EW-60C

Those thieving ba$£%^&$!! I know what you mean Al - Got a L lens on order thats coming with a hood :D If I'm honest..really excited!! :D

Thanks for the heads up Dark knight, theres loads of crap on ebay. I'll look for lens secific like TRC mentioned. Thanks guys ;)

I recently ordered the hood for my Canon 18-55. Petal hoods are no good because the front element of the lens you have rotates during focus.

But the quoted hood doesn't fit to the front element - it fits to the barrel (which on my 18-55 doesn't rotate - the front element of the lens does, the barrel doesn't) - or am I having misrememberies... been a while since I looked at the 18-55...
