I have just purchased a second hand Tamron 18-250mm lens, unfortunately it came without a lens hood. Now since I don't like taking photo's without a lens hood, can any one recommend a decent lens hood for this lens. I have read that the one that normally comes with this lens is a petal shaped hood, but this can some times will cast a shadow onto the lens. I have considered a 3 stage rubber lens hood, has anyone had any experience with this type of hood and basically are they any good? Or which lens hood would you recommend?

superzooms suck balls in the hood department as you need a hood that works for 18mm which is sod all use for 250mm. see if you can find one on ebay for an 18mm (petal type) for the same size front element and see how it attaches and how the proper tammy one attaches

you can get cheap £3 pound ones of ebay that have all sorts of filter types, the best way but the one thats quite hassle bound is to buy a petal hood for wide shots and anything telephoto i would buy a deep hood.

Thanks for the info, i have been looking on ebay for a petal type lens hood, but all of them appear to be screw fitting, I much prefer to have a bayonet fitting, I have found one on Jessops site for £19.
Shame I don't live in the states, you can get the same one for $15 !! But delivered to the UK it goes up to $50 Ouch !!
