hello all,

I'm wondering whether I should buy a filter and lens hood for my 55-250IS lens.

If so, what hood should I get? Is there a specific one for this lens, or are there generic ones? what would be the advantage of getting one?

I understand I need a 58mm filter. I guess Its a good idea to get one, even if its just to protect the lens? I'll probably get a UV one I guess.

Thanks,

Chris.

There is a specific hood a Canon ET-60. The Main advantage of a lens hood is that it shades teh lens from strong side illumination which can cause lens flares.

There are probably more reasons than that...but can't remember them at the mo!

Also provides added protection from any dust etc.

I got the ET-60 from amazon for about £10 delivered. It fits really well and can be reversed when in my bag. It has really reduced lens flare (which is worse as I have a UV filter fitted).

It also protects the front elements from accidental knocks/finger prints etc...

Great, thanks guys.

So, does the hood attach to the main body of the lens, or the part that sticks out when you zoom? Hope that makes sense! sorry for my description!

Thanks,

Chris.

it attaches to the part that extends! it should have a mounting grove for it right on the end of the lens.
