Just on the off chance - wondering if anyone has had success in sourcing a suitable (not collapsible rubber) lens hood for this lens?
I'm aware the Canon hood is a BW-52C but not only are they rare to find, when they are for sale they're silly money.
I appreciate that a non Canon hood will have to be screw in and the thread size of the lens is 52mm.
Thanks

I just use cheap evil bay metal vented ones on my FD's. I can't say which you'll need to prevent vignetting as my 24mm in FD mount isn't a Canon but my Zuiko and Rokkor 24's seem happy enough with them.

This is the sort of thing...

If you're interested you may have to do some Googling to see if anyone has used one of these on a 24mm FD without issues.

Many thanks Alan.
I've often wondered about these "vented" and have never been able to understand the purpose of the cut out.
The original Canon hood for this lens is a petal hood.
May well give your link a go.
Thanks
Stuart

I think the cut out is for when you're using a range finder and the lens / hood intrudes into the view, the vent then gives you an extra peek at the subject :D

If you look you may well find similar hoods without the cut out but I haven't had any problems due to the cut out yet so to date I haven't had to worry about it.

PS.
I've just done a quick search on evil bay as "52mm metal lens hood" and there are indeed non vented ones for similar prices, under £10.
