I have a small home studio and mainly use my 17-70mm 50mm and 85mm lens depending on the shot i want.
to get a full body shot i need roughly 20mm.

I have seen sigma do a 1.8 and canon do a 2.8 for some extra pennies.
Is there alot of difference in these lenses and which is the best?

I also want to get an UWA like the canon 10-22mm

im checknig the best option really

a/ buy both the prime and UWA
b/ buy the UWA for both applications (is it sharp enough at largish apertures)
 
I'm not a studio photographer but I don't think I'd really want to be taking full-length shots of people at 20mm, let alone anything wider.
 
i was thinking that might have to try and see what distortion i get with the 17-70mm would a prime handle distortion any better?
 
The widest I've used is a 30mm, but I do know a pro 'tog that has a 20mm f/2.8 Canon for the kind of thing your suggesting, use it for headshots etc and it will give people very odd faces indeed. That's assuming they don't have them already :naughty:
 
no definatley not for head shots. On the 17-70 im sure 20mm is f/3.2 or whatever it is. so the canon rime is not much faster. The Sigma is cheaper and faster. Not read up on the optics though.

However again If i get the UWA i would ony be shooting 19-22mm really for full body shots. but i can also use this lens for landascape work as well. Its more expensive than both of the primes but got a feeling it will be used more!
 
how about siggy 30mm?
 
I will have to check if the 30mm is gonig to be wide enough! I've heard alot of horror stories about the poor build quality in these perticular lenses though!

That is because the majority of people only say something when they have a bad lens, very rarely do they say they have a good one.

I have had two Sigma lenses and both were fine ,in fact I still have one of them.
 
i know that you only hear when its bad news - i have 3 sigma lenses and all are fine i think it has a stigma like the canon 50mm 1.2L (or at least it did have)
