i have the 18-55 kit lens for my Nikon D60 and hopefully my 35mm/1.8 will be here shortly.

Im going off to chester for the weekend @ Easter and want to take some pictures, (ill be going round the town and also to the zoo)

The question is, i dont really fancy taking both lenses as im lazy :p i was thinking about just taking the 35mm is this a good / bad idea?

Yes 55mm will be a bit wide for the zoo so 35mm certainly will be.

or just the kit... it will give you the range but not the performance, though.

I hate to say it, but neither lens will be long enough for the zoo. You need reach for a lot of the enclosures as some animals tend to shy away at the back, and with the kit, you'll only get useable shots if they are right by the fencing.

Agree with the above. I was there last week, and a majority of my photos were taken at the full reach of my 70-300mm.

The 35mm will do if all you're interested in are the reptiles inside the vivariums.

The humidity in the butterfly house temporarily killed my camera when I went, as well as immediately covering the lens with a film of condensation. Perhaps it would acclimatise, but I didn't fancy hanging around to find out, when I could feel the camera getting wetter in my hands. Proceed with caution.
