Hi,
At the moment i have a canon 100-400 mm IS lens. I have been using it for a while but still don't think it is that amazing image quality. I was thinking of selling it and buying a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Lens.
Does anyone have any ideas sample photos of the sigma. I know it is 500grams heavier but still the spare money i can buy another camera body.

I really don't think you're going to get better image quality by switching from the 100-400L to the Sigma 150-500. There's a reason why one's £1200 and the other's £700.

Luke just a thought, why not post up an image that you are not happy with quality wise, and we can see if there is an obvious problem with the lens.

(Sorry Hooky just noticed you made the same suggestion)
 
I think the exposure is a little off, which would affect the sharpness. Not easy with the contrast in this type of shot.

Cheers Luke, you have shot that at 1/1600sec @ f5.6 @400mm Aperture Priority.

You can get away with 1/500 sec and freeze action in those sort of shots, which means that you could afford to take your aperture to around the f7.1 mark which would improve your sharpness.
 
Might be worthwhile remembering that the 100-400 is a little soft at 400 mm, so bringing it back a touch may help too.

Hmm, I don't quite get the numbers in this reply! 1/1600s @ f5.6 is equivalent exposure to 1/800s @ f8, so f7.1 is going to be nearer 1/1000s and 1/500s would give something closer to f11. In any case, increasing the shutter speed would not give the same effect with the frozen water droplets, but the smaller aperture would improve sharpness a little.

Anyway, I doubt the Sigma would give better results, good though it is. The Canon 100-400 is often cited as being "soft" in comparison to the (superb) Canon primes, but that's not a very fair comparison and it's still a damned good zoom lens!
