lens help needed please

hi guys, i need a little help. i own a standard nikon kit lens (18-55mm) and a sigma 70-300 manual focus.

the help i need is that i was at RIAT the other weekend and i was using the sigma. As this was an manual focus lens it was really difficult to have focus all the time so out of 1300 shots i only got roughly 300 good ones

i was wondering if i could fit a teleconverter to the kit lens to make it a 200mm or so lens and still keep the auto focus

No you would need two 2x convertors to reach that and it would cost you more than buying a 18-200 plus it would drop 4 stops so unless you were on a tripod you would find it rather difficult... Oh and they are not compatible with your lens anyway

From what you are saying I'm guessing that you haven't used a teleconverter before. A couple of things you must remember when using a TC, you should retain AF but may not depending on the TC you buy. You will lose light, something like 1 stop for a 1.4X, 2 stops for a 2X and if you can find a 3X a lot more. It will also exaggerate any lens defects i.e chromas, abberations etc.

Personally I would use the cash to upgrade the 70-300.
