lens for swimming

Hi I am looking for some help on the subject of a good Tele/Zoom for use with sports.
I enjoy track days as well as other sports. I dont have a deep pocket and would welcome some advise. I have been informed to look at a sigma lens.
i also shoot some swimming events taht my son swims in so a fast lens fr indoor use would be a good idea.
also if any sites used for buying equiment would go down well.

If you're going to be using this indoors then the minimum you'll need is f2.8 personally knowing a few people who do this, they tend to stick to primes like the 100mm or 135mm or 200mm for indoor sports, but then again they're also using pro bodies with fast autofocus systems and very good ISO capabilities.

Depends what budget you're talking about and which sigmas you were interested in

I covered an indoor swimming comp last December using a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS MkII & was more than happy with the results it gave, especially at ISO 3200 on one of my 50D's (not known for great high ISO performance)
