Hey chaps,

Need some help from Street Photography experts out there. Living in London makes me wanting to go out at night and take pictures everywhere. I need to get a lens that I can attach to the camera and shoot with one hand using live view so that I do not appear too intrusive to others. Now my question: What focal length do I need. It looks like a fast prime is the only way to do this so what focal length would you suggest?

Thanks in advance

The 50mm 1.8 should be pretty good for what you need.Ain't got one myself but I think thats what I would buy for street photography.

35 1.8 just bought one from kerso hopefully be here tomorrow.

I had a brief play around with one when I had a DSLR, and I would say that it's a little too narrow a focal length if you want to do street photography, where you want at least a bit of the street in view to give the scene a sense of place. Otherwise you'll just spend the whole time having to take a few extra steps back to get the right shot, by which time the moment would have passed.

Depends if you are talking with or want an eye view... 35mm prolly.

However if you want candid, you'll probbaly be more interested in 150-200 mm max.

Perhaps a 100-200 mm ? or 70-200mm?

If you are in a street where there are people talking pictures, then candid is easier as you would be 'practicing' on something behind the subject.

So really depends what you want to get out of it. Perhaps hire some lenses before you buy?

No I don't want a zoom. They are way to big that what I want (otherwise I would take my 24-70 2.8). I want something that will allow me use the camera almost as a compact (one hand shooting well below eye-level) so that I don't come out of the crowd too much...

how much did that cost if I may ask??
