Lens for Landscapes

Which is the best Canon lens for landscapes.

Or what do you all use.

You can use any lens for landscapes, it really depends on what type of look and composition you like.

I've known people to take nice landscape shots with a 70-200mm at it's longest end.

A kit lens is the best place to start.

I use my 18-200 siggie most often as it's my walk around but have taken images with my 50 and also 70-200 with teleconverter on and been happy.

There are many who wouldn't use anything other than a 10-20; as said above, depends what you want to achieve.

I like to use my 10 22 on my 7D, but as 2thumbs says above about the landscape shots with a 70-200mm, i got some book out the library a few weeks back by some fantastic American landscape photographers and the 70-200mm lens was was being widely used by them in several locations along with a sturdy tripod

Depending on budget and owning the 5D2 the Canon 16-35 will offer you good sharp results and may be my choice. This is of course if you want to shoot wide, which is a popular format. For a bit of reach the 24-105 L I've noticed is also popular.

Actually.. whilst the 17-40 is sharper more contrasty and has better colour rendition, I like my Sigma 12-24. Although it gets used less, it gets a higher proportion of prints. The subject matter has to be right though. A generic very wide angle is actually quite boring....
