Lens for Landscapes

I have got Canon pro glass & Lee filters, however, I would suggest to the OP to persist with the equipment he has/is planning on getting to develop both his skills & style. That way the more expensive equipment can be bought to fit with his style.

For someone who is just starting off, cokin are more than sufficient
Sorry but I have to disagree; filters are like tripods buy the best first time and you should never need to buy them again as long as you look after them.
Taken with a 0.6 GND Lee filter

here's a landscape with the Nikon kit lens 18-55 AF-S VR handheld - supported on a rock wall

it's not an example to show how great it is....:D....but to show that it's shot at 18mm

and if it was wider the trees would be too distant...............:shake:
.

here's a ''link'' to Ken Rockwell
Wide angle is NOT about getting it all in ..........enjoy..

Imguessing this is a 3 shot panorama?!

If you are shoting wide you need to have something close in the forground.........I mean very close like "feet inches" rather than meters

The main problem I'd say is that actually using Cokin or any other kind of grad filter or polarizer would be tough on the 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses.

The most useble filters for Manc Man right now would IMHO be a 58mm screw in ND filter for long exposures that will work on both zooms and a 52mm screw in polarizer than would work on the 50mm 1.8.

Cheers Moreorless, i have looked at the screw in filters, and i plan to order some.

well no actually...:D

it's an image from an afternoon stroll with a Nikon D5100 and a standard kit lens Nikon 18-55mm AF-S VR. Handheld on a beanbag on a rockwall

it's a highly underrated lens

maybe used my Marumi 52mm DHG Polariser ......otherwise, shot on the ''Large jpeg, Fine'' setting with Picture set to ''Vivid''

then cropped.......I'm quite pleased with it

posted to show - in certain circumstances - you dont need an UWA
