Me again! Still not much wiser and reliant on advice from you guys, please?
So, please dont laugh at my continuing ignorance, but is Sigma 120-400 f4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM suitable for Nikon D700 ... and, if so, any good?
Thanks peeps!!
Can't comment on how good it is but can tell you that it should work fine on a full frame body. Sigma designate their FF lenses as DG and their crop only lenses as DC. The D700 can be set to automatically recognise crop lenses and go into crop mode and crop bodies can use FF lenses but won't use them to their full capabilities as far as angle of view goes.
HTH.
For future reference, Full Frame lenses from Nikon are just NOT marked as Dx, from Sigma are marked DG and from Tamron are NOT marked as DiII. I have a feeling that Tokina just borrow Nikons Dx label for CROP lenses.
The Sigma 120-400 is not a bad lens,as always there are better i stick with mine because i can manage it with my shoulder and elbow problems, although i keep being tempted to be silly and get some thing longer, and heavier
My copy was one of the sharpest lenses I ever owned. Wish I never sold it. Cracking lens, the OS works great and its pin sharp even wide open at 400mm.
I won't comment on the lens performance (I never really liked my 150-500) but just to make you aware that these are not small lenses, you won't be carrying them in a messenger type bag.
