Hi all, i have just brought myself a second hand D70 and im unsure what lens to get for it. I love taking macro shots with my kodak Z710 but i was at its limits with it which is why i have brought a DSLR. i would also like an all round lens for taking photos of general wildlife, do you have any suggestions? i cant afford to spend alot as i have been layed off from work and i have two children. i would be greatfull for any advice.

many thanks
luke

You'll be struggling to get a lens that will do all you want for £50-100. One of the older 70-300 Nikon lenses can be had for around £30-40 secondhand or about £70-80 new, they're not all that great, but it would get you started. A secondhand one of those, plus a secondhand 18-55 for around £30 (as low as £15 if you don't mind a silver one) or an 18-55 VR for £60 or so would get you up and running.

The D70 is a cracking wee camera btw

The crop up on Ebay all the time, but keep your eye on the sales forum on TP,you're more likely to get a bargain here ;)

Edit: about £50 seems to be the ebay price now for the later 18-55 II lens, but I think you might still get the older one for £30 or so, if you can put up with silver then you'll get more for less

Sigma 70-300 APO Macro

Not a brilliant lens by any stretch but will do you well for wildlife for now and has some rudimentary macro function (albeit only at 200m and above).

Do you have any lens at all at the moment or just the body?

In that case, the 70-300 i suggested is worth looking for to get wildlife and macro but you'll want something like the 18-55 suggested above for a more normal range too...

The 18-55VR can be had for around the £80 mark. It'll do most things and it a good lens.

I have a D70, it came with the kit lens 18-70mm. For a walk about lens it is excellent, fast focus and sharp, not sure about price though. I use it on my D90 aswell and is the most used lens in my bag.
