Hey everyone,
I'm going on my first cruise holiday with my girlfriend in July to France, croatia and mainly Italy!
I've got a Nikon d3100 and kit lens but not sure if the 18-55mm will be enough as most of you know Italy is a very photographic place.
My budget for a lens isn't huge maybe a max of £200.
Would someone give me advice on which lens I should go for which would be suitable for this holiday? Would I be looking at a better zoom lens? Or something else? I'm still new to all the different types of lenses.
Thanks in advance
Marco

If you want a single lens which is versatile and will give reasonable results in most situations you could do worse than the Sigma 18-200mm.
They can be had for well under £200 here and there online.
There's a similar Tamron version I think.

As a walkaround lens on cruise stops, the 18-55 should cover most of your needs. I've checked the shots from my last trip to Italy and most were in the 17-31mm range.

On the ship you might want something longer for shooting interesting stuff on the coast as you sail by. Croatia is very scenic. You'll love it.

Thanks for the replies, so my 18-55mm should be sufficient.
My sister has recently bought a 55-300mm lens, would it be worth taking this with me?

Most definitely... you may not want to take it ashore but there will be plenty of opportunities on board where you'll enjoy the flexibility.

On our last cruise,March this year I had on my D90 a 35mm f1.8 and a 55-200 f4.5 in my camera bag. All I used the whole fortnight was the 35mm and was quite happy.

I've been on a couple of cruises and only ever take my 18-55 (latterly 18-105) and 55-200 lenses. Most photos have been taken with the 18-xx but the longer lens is useful for shots when the ship is close to shore.
