o.k then, ive seen lens pens and allsorts on the net, they a waste of ££ im guessing then?

They are not a waist of money. With all do respect to the other replies, you need more than a cloth to keep things clean. The pin works well in certain situations and the blower is a must imho. You will also need a bit of lens cleaning liquid. You can buy all of this in a kit or separately.

My colleagues and I clean literally hundreds of lenses each month - we clean every lens, every time it's hired - and over the years we've tried a fair few things. But our cleaning kit now is surprisingly minimal:
(1) rocket blower;
(2) single-use tissues (we use Kimtech precision wipes, but there are other brands);
(3) pure isopropyl alcohol.

That's all. And in fact much of the time we don't need (3). Remove dust with rocket blower, breathe on glass, wipe with tissue, job done. The isopropyl helps remove greasy fingerprints etc.

I can't stress enough the importance of never touching the glass with anything that might transfer particles of dust or grit onto the glass, because then when you wipe it you can scratch it. That's why we don't use lens pens, glass cloths, etc. Everything which touches the glass is strictly single-use only.
