Hi all, new here and wanted to take this chance to say hello:)
I have just purchased a Canon D50 DSLR having used a Canon EOS 650 film camera. I am confused over lenses now. Is this lens http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=193871 suitable for the Canon 50D?

I hope so as i have just purchased it. Somebody please tell me i've done the right thing....

Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much for the reply.
I'm afraid the bank is now broken and my wife is watching me like..well i'm sure you know what i mean.
thanks.

I have a Canon 50D that uses either EF or EF-S lenes. Only the fullframe sensors ie 5D can cause problems with most EF-S lenses (may smash the mirror/ sensor). (Some sigma DG lenses ok but not DC). So the 50D being a 1.6x crop can use any DSLR fitting lens from canon, sigma, tamron etc. I'm sure someone will correct me if this is incorrect information. Its a super camera that I use with a 17-40 lens (so with the crop factor increases focal length). The 70-300 lens you were looking at would increase to approx 110-475mm or thereabouts on a 1.6x crop. The f stop remains the same but camera shake increases unless increase speed/iso. I like this camera as not into video. It has plenty of features & solid body. Hope this helps in someway

To clarify one of Graham's points: the EF-S mount used on Canon cropped frame cameras is a superset of the EF mount used on their full frame cameras. EF-S lenses won't physically fit on EF mount cameras but EF lenses will fit on EF-S mounts.

Hi, thankyou very much for the information, my mind is now at rest.
Many thanks for the help.
