Yes
I am looking to upgrade from my Sony a390 and have pretty much decided that a 70D is the camera for me. The problem I’m having is choosing lenses to go with it.
I cant decide between the
Canon 24-105 f4 IS + Canon 70-200 f4 IS
Or
Sigma Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 EX DC OS HSM Lens + Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD
The sigma’s will cost less and are f2.8 but the canon’s are well regarded and built like the tanks I work on.
So guys which should I go for, or is there a better choice I have overlooked.
I’m also getting the canon 50mm f1.8 regardless of the other lens choices.

No idea with canon stuff, but how much is a 24-105 compared to the canon 17-40 f4 or 17-55 f2.8? Option 1 would be my choice I think but 24 isn't that wide on aps-c hence the above question.

Having the 24-105 would effectively give you 38-168. Or you could buy the kit lens at 18-135?

24-105 is not wide enough on crop format. Best options are Canon 17-55/2.8 or 15-85.

Then IMHO you should hold fire on the telezoom until you're clear. There is a huge amount of choice in that sector (Canon alone has TEN options between 55-300mm) all with pros and cons.

On my crop sony i have the 18-55 + 55-200 i very rarely use the wide end but have done when needed, one of the things I thought was would I miss it should I get the 24-105. the 18-135 is f3.5/5.6 and I would like a constant apature. i could get the canon 17-55 f2.8 but it is more exspensive than the sigma, and from what I understand the zoom ring works in reverse on the sigmas so if I got the wide canon I would want the zoom canon to.

I have the 70D and the 2 lenses that spend most of the time on my camera now are the Canon 50mm F1.8 with needs no comments! I also have just got the Canon 70-200 F4L and so far I am loving the results I am getting they appear very sharp and crisp at all focal lengths

You'd be unusual not to need wider than 24mm on a cropper, which is why all 'standard' range zooms for crop format start around 15-18mm. More than likely this will be your most used lens so choose carefully and be prepared to spend. Canon 17-55/2.8 and 15-85 are both very good lenses.

On the telezoom front, 70-200/4 IS is a fine lens for sure, but equally appealing IMHO are the new 55-250 STM, Canon 70-300L, or the bargain Tamron 70-300 VC. All excellent, but in different ways. You need to try them, and don't rush into it. Don't worry about zoom rings turning in opposite directions, really insignificant. I'm not sure how important constant max aperture is either.
