Hi everyone i have a canon 5d classic and am looking for a new lens,
im looking for either unless you have any other ideas, and my budget is £300

Tokina 24-70mm f2.8

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8

Tamron 28-75mm f2.8

I no there not the best optics in world but i like the large f stop of the lens listed, and do like low light photography along with portrait

Thanks for your help

Is it purely advice on which to choose based on others experience that you are after?

If so, I have had a loan of one of the Sigma 24-70 but never liked the images as much as the results I got from the Tamron 28-75. Haven't tried the Tokina though.

Of those three i'd take the sigma or the tamron , but tbh you might be better off with a couple of primes say the nifty and the 85mm f1.8

hi barrysprout yes, looking for advice from others. And big soft moose i have a nifty but wanted something tele photo as i shoot in some small darkish areas and last thing i wnt is to drop a nice prime lens! and then theres the time of swapping and stowing the lens away again

If it is the hsm version of the sigma is go for that. Nice images if you get a good copy, and quiet motor.

The tamron has always given me sharp images in previous copies but has a noisier motor when focusing. Something I find distracting.

Never used tokina.

Hi Rob,

The 40mm pancake is a wonderfull, cheap, high image quality lens on a 5Dc.
I really think you should consider it. ;)

Tarmon is supposed to be good all of those lenses you mentioned are a little short for portraits though. Really if you were wanting a zoom you would probably be better of with something around the 70-200 range.

I miss my tamron 28-75mm since replacing it with a 24-105mm f4L almost enough to get another but not quite!

Only downsides to the tamron is 28mm is not that wide by today's standards and the vignette could be a pain in certain conditions/ lighting.

Hi guys thanks for all the usefull replys, managed to increase my budget so thinking of going for 24-105l, a friend has 1 so had a play and is a very nice lens! Was thinking about 40mm pancake as a prime alternative and cheap bout 100 pound-ish. I also know the 24-105l is much sharper over the others at f4 and vertually perfect at f8 hmmm mite go tht route as it holds it focus when u zoom too, all the others u have to recompose, think ive just talked myself into it! Lol

If you can stretch to it the 24-105l is a very nice lens on the 5D.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase don't hobble the lovely 5D with a pedestrian f4 lump of a lens.

It deserves a Sigma 50mm f1.4 or if you prefer a Sigma 85mm f1.4.

Three lenses persuaded me to buy a 5D and they were all Sigma, 12-24mm, 50 and 85mm f1.4. However, the Sigma 150mm f2.8 is also rather good but I'd go for the 50mm f1.4 first.

I probably haven't helped :D

I recently got a 17/40 canon L for £320 on the bay. And I've got a siggy 50 mm 1.4. Both lovely lenses. I use them with my 5D mk2 and 40D.

Ok ladies and gents, thanks for all ure replies. I went for the 24-105mm f4, had a play with 1 and liked it, felt nice to use and gave me results i was looking for, thanks again!
