Am I the last to know.. I wasn't aware lens had firmware updates..

juts about to update my canon 1dx firmware and it has the 24-70 mkii attached and giving me the option to update that?
Checked and no updates available BTW

Been a thing for a while now. Sigma put out a dock for their Art lenses that had options for firmware updates years ago, that's where I came across it first. Panasonic and Olympus do firmware updates for their lenses, especially ones with dual stabilization capabilities, as the new bodies come out they update them to suit

Fuji have done a few firmware updates, some of them were for the lens to work with new cameras IIRC other updates to improve VR, focusing etc

I've not heard of lens firmware updates either my gear is with Canon at the moment for focus calibration and checking I'll ask about it when I pick it up

As per other thread, we had a discussion on here a while back, keep up! :-)

I went on canon support website and chose each of my lens.. seems to be only the mkII versions... neither of mine have any firmware updates listed... the 24-70 or the 70-200

I didn't know either (finger on the pulse, as always :D). I'll have to run my 1Dx's and my lenses through the system and see if there are any relevant updates

I've never seen firmware updates for my Nikon lenses tbh, but my Olly lenses occasionally have updates. I believe my Tamron also does but you have to send that off for it. These docks are a good idea allowing third party lenses to be updated, but you don't need a dock for Olympus lenses.

I would imagine the Sigma ART lenses had a few. Are they not able to be adjusted on a PC with software

They use the Dock in conjunction with a PC/Mac

I had to update the firmware on my Nikon 1 FT1 adaptor. But Nikon doesn't generally let users update the lens firmware... it has to go in for a service.
Currently there are firmware updates for the 300PF and the 200-500. And several Nikon 1 lenses (these are user updatable).
