Yesterday I received an email asking about lens element damage from cement degradation or separation. This condition is quite common, and it affects some lenses more than others. You can see how I approach de-cementing and re-cementing elements here:

Canada balsam is available from The Surplus Shed and I believe you should be able to find it pre-mixed from any scientific supply which serves users of microscopes. Some of the pre-mixed stuff dries faster. I'm not a fan of using UV cured cement on lens elements originally joined with balsam. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
