Hi all,

Got a Jupiter 8 LTM L39 mount lens in the post today, and fitted it to an also newly acquired ebay L39 to M adapter.

However when I screw the lens into the adapter and mount it on my camera, the lens doesn't line up correctly?

Pic below, as you can see the lens is off centre and is lined up to F5.6 on the DOF scale. It won't turn any further in the adapter.

Is this actually problematic?

Also if anybody is knowledgeable about testing focus accuracy with RF's, could you tell me how I can test the lens to see whether it is focussing correctly? I have read a little about shimming Jupiter 8's but don't really understand what that means, or whether I need to even do so!

That should be fine, my UC-Hexanon doesn't line up perfectly (not as extreme as yours though), the adapter is basically a shim so that the lens is the correct distance away from the film plane. What I do to test focus is use a DLSR with an AF lens that has a distance scale on it, focus on random stuff around you and then compare distances. Also make sure that the rf patch is aligned when you're focused at infinity (use the moon). I believe you can adjust the rf patch by removing the hotshoe and adjusting some screws (but I'm going off of the RD1 I had).

I think you'll find that the problem is the result of cost-factored engineering:naughty: You've got a lens which plainly wasn't developed to be compatible with the camera in the image. Given that the same lens fits my Zorki-4 without any issues, I'm going to humbly suggest that the fault may lie not with the lens. Ahem:wave::wave::wave::wave::wave:
