Evening all,

Just been looking at a few of my more recent shots and can see quite a few bits of dust on there - I normally use a few hi-quality microfibre cloths (Originally for car cleaning, Meguiars stuff - not cheap tat) but they're a bit too big for carrying in my bag.

Could anyone suggest a replacement? Is the more expensive stuff worth the premium?

If it matters, lenses are an 18-55mm Sony and a 70-300mm Tamron

I use a Giottos 'rocket' blower and a small glasses (spectacles) cleaning cloth. It's very soft and importantly lint free. Live in my bad all the time.

Re the dust on your pics - have you checked your sensor? I found dust on the lens makes rarely shows up unless it is bad or big stuff. Go careful if you're cleaning your sensor though or get a pro/your local supplier to do it.
 
I pinched the cloth that came with our LCD TV, its perfect for cleaning the lenses without scratching the surface and its a nice size to fit in the bag.
 
I carry a couple of costco microfibres in my camera bag, I keep the megs cloths for the cars but I only use them for covering the camera and wipeing the externals down. The lens is blown with a rocket blower then an optical glass cleaning wipe from boots to remove grease and finger prints then a lenspen to get shut of anything that may be remaining, I could get away with blower and lenspen but I like to think that the lenspen will work better for longer if it is grease free. I got the lenspens from jessops in their new year sale £10 for a pack of 4.
 
Have you checked your sensor to see if that has the dirt and not the lens.....

Ye, unless youre at F/22 all the time you wouldnt notice it! I don't know any lenses that actually focus on the elements themselves either :D
 
your mequires cloth is the best for a car, but not necessarily the best for lenses, different microfibre cloths have different piles for different applications. as per above spectical cleaning cloths are fine.

and yes as per above sounds like a dirty sensor more than anything else. dont put your cloth that though, glitto blower and swab if needed.
 
Ask nicely in Spec.Savers and they will give you a (replacement) micro fiber cloth. Lenspen is the biz for proper cleaning without a doubt.
 
3M make an excellent little lens cleaning cloth 18cm x 16cm used to
be about £1.... Homebase stocked them but also discontinued them
at 75p each.

First a rocket blower and then I use a lens cleaning spray-on fluid. Then wipe down with a decent lens cloth.

Very dodgy, if overused , spray on cleaning chemicals are a well known cause of coating damage:nono:
 
I'd definitely get a blower and give that a go on your sensor, it will probably sort it out. I wouldn't advise sticking anything inside your body to try to clean it unless you know what you're doing, because it can easily break the camera.

I found out the hard way with my 1000D, when I got some dust inside on the viewfinder screen and tried to use a cotton swab on it as I didn't have a blower at the time. I ended up breaking the focus points and the red light did not light up the focus points correctly when focusing. Luckily, it got repaired by Canon under warranty......but I know I definitely won't be doing that again :D

They can also get inside a lens to areas that are very
hard to get at, and if left cause damage.

Put the chemicals on a cloth first if they are safe.

Do what the old press photographers did. A quick rub with the end of your tie.
