Can they be used to wipe the sensor? Very gently of course.

Sensor cleaning is not difficult but you really do need to use the correct tools. Lens wipes are not in that category.

You'll need to get a suitable system, either wet, or my preference dry ( Visible Dust).

Wet systems use a very pure spirit, the actual properties and constituents are a very closely guarded secret. The solution needs not to react with the sensor, remove "gunge" and evaporate leaving no trace. No small order.
 
Been looking at getting a LensPen, as it says they can be used on sensors.
 
I have always used pecpads on a glue spreader on mine and never had a problem.

Hi scraggs, I use Pecpads on my lenses with eclipse fluid, I too have been tempted to use these as the cost of the sensor wipes are ridiculously expensive for what they are.
Never done it though, I might try it on my 350d when I get a new body just in case I wreck it ;)

I agree the cleaning swabs are way too pricey imho.
Just make sure you have the correct eclipse fluid for the sensor.
 
I do, the E2 fluid isn't for my sensor I believe. I have the Eclipes lens cleaner fluid, thanks for the links ;)

I wouldn't use a lens pen as such but 'Sensorklear' by Lenspen is OK (although I've a suspicion these are simply smaller lens pens!). I've cleaned several sensors with a 'SensorKlear' with successful results. It's still a dry cleaning methed though so if your sensor requires a wet clean I doubt 'SensorKlear' will help much and Eclipse (plus the correct wipe) will probably be the best bet.
 
It's the Sensorklear one I was looking at, sorry I didn't make myself clearer. Don't think it needs a wet clean, but I shall purchase some eclipse fluid for future use.
 
Glue spreader + pec pads = sensor swabs... :thumbs:

Thats all they are, iv got some old sensor swabs that i re-hash with pec pads, trouble is you've gotta cut the pads downs as they are too big for me.. i think that makes the less 'Sterile' but it does the job...
 
Anton did a review on the sensor pen. I'll stick to pec pads on a glue spreader :)

Rocket blower as first choice, Pec pads if that is not good enough is what I do. From what I've read some of the static charged brush systems seem to work quite well but I've never tried them.
 
Ah looks like I better wait and get the pads then.
