Lens cap for Minolta Autocord

Hi all,

I've just purchased a Minolta Autocord, but it's missing the cap for the lenses.

I'm guessing that I can use any Bayonet 1 fit lens cap (or Bay 30) such as those made for Yashica or Rollei TLRs?

If so, anyone know where I can pick one up at a reasonable price? I haven't seen any for less than £20, except for some overseas sellers, but I've had some bad luck with shipping times recently and was hoping to find something a bit closer to home.

Right, I'm guessing a Bay 1 cap will do it, as no one has chimed in to say otherwise, but are the new generic ones sufficient or am I better with a secondhand original?

I was reading a thread on another forum that suggested some Bay 1 caps won't work if there's a filter on the taking lens, but I wasn't sure how to tell these from any others?
 
Woh. Bit fast to criticise the lack of response there mate. Some of us have constant loss of service to deal with (Not that Virgin will ever admit to it). :help:

Yes, any Bayonet 1 should fit.
Never heard of B30.
Doubt if any will fit with a filter on as the lens fronts wont be flat then. The bottom one will stick out by the depth of the filter and you don't get kinked lens caps. (Hint. Get a B1 to screw adaptor for filters. Their a lot cheaper and more readily available than bayonets).

If your using a bag, put a square B1 lens hood on the bottom taking lens, and you should be able to get away without a cap.

If the focus lever gets stiff, DON'T force it, get it serviced. Enjoy :thumbs:

Oops, I think that came across much differently than I'd intended, as I definitely wasn't meaning to be critical of the forum.

In fact, I was more wondering if maybe I had just asked a 'silly question', but I thought I'd give the thread one friendly bump before making that determination.

Again, apologies if it seemed I was being ungrateful and unreasonable.

Many thanks for the advice.

I'd been thinking about the B1 to screw adaptor possibility, but then I'm guessing I can't use the lens hood (which I will have when the camera arrives)? Or do I just use a hood that matches the screw adaptor size (e.g., 52mm)?

Hmmm... I will have the lens hood, so this is possible, but I'm always paranoid about putting on lens caps when I'm not using a camera or lens, so I'll have to fight this habit. It would save me a few pounds though.

Yeah, I've read that this is one of the few weak points of the camera. The particular camera I've bought though was advertised as 'serviced', so hopefully everything is in good shape (fingers crossed!).

I'm excited to get using it!
 
The hinged rollei cap fits. I used to use one. If you have a filter on you can just attach the bottom half and leave it folded. But I seem to remember you could put a filter on the top lens as well, then it would fit.

When I was out and about I had a lens hood on and did not bother with the caps.

I might have a look around for some of the hinged caps.
 
This here camera sounds familiar... bet you got it from a cracking place with handsome staff :wave:

Ha, I haven't actually seen the staff in the flesh to confirm the handsome bit ;), but they've been very helpful via the interwebs thus far :wave:

I was thinking that there was a chance you'd be on TP.

I'm very excited to actually get the camera in my hands; I'm hopeful that it'll arrive tomorrow!
