Lens Body combination for safari

I am going on another safari to Tanzania in September this year. My planned equipment to take will be;
Nikon D500
Nikon D810
Nikon 600mm f4 (latest one)
Nikon 100/400mm (latest one I think)

My thinking is to put the D500 with the 600mm lens to give me ~900mm for the far away stuff, and the D810 with the 100/400mm...........is that what you would do??

When I was in Tanzania two years ago, I took way to much gear (3 x bodies & 3 x big lenses nightmare). The truth of the matter is I used D800e plus 600mm 95% of the time with the rest with my D4s & 70/200mm

Im not a Nikon user so I cant comment on what your bodies are, but I always take my 600,, then usually my 70-200 on the other body, But if I had a 100-400 I would take that. However I'm off to Finland in 10 days and I'll be taking both my 600, 300 & 70-200..
 
I was on Tanzania safari last year with a D500/ D810.

I had the Sigma 120-300/1.4tc on the D500 and the 70-200 on the D810. Only once or twice did I think I didn't have enough lens for the job and more than that I thought I had too much.

If that's the kit you're taking then I think you've got the plan correct.
 
We were on safari in Tanzania at the end of last year and I had a Canon 28-300 on a 5D4 and a Sigma 150-600 on a 7D2 (1.6 crop so effectively 240-960) and the combination worked well.
 
We went to Zambia on safari in November. I took a pair of binoculars, Canon 7D2, 15-85mm, 100-400mm II and a 1.4x TC. Pretty much covered everything I needed. If you want to take your 600mm, check the carry on luggage allowance. For Zambia, we were only allowed 5kg and it was only just about enough.
