I'm looking at getting a new lens or two & can't make my mind up what to go for. It's mainly for indoor event work & some (but not much) landscape, but that's mainly for fun.
I was looking at the Sigma 17-70 Macro, Canon 17-40 F4L & Canon 24-70 F2.8L, if I went for the 17-40, it should leave enough in my budget to get the 17-70 as well, which I like the look of the the macro even though it's obviously not up to the standard of an L lens. It'll be used on a 20 & 40D bodies, any thoughts welcome!

Hi and :welcome: to TP

I can't really see the point in getting a 17-40 and a 17-70  Although the 17-40 will be the better quality lens there's too much of a cross over there imo.

The 17-40 would be a good lens for landscape stuff. You'll need something with a wide aperture for the indoor work, why not look at a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4.

Another possible combo would be a Sigma 10-20 - (great for wide angle shots) and the 17-40 or 17-70 :)

the 50mm isn't wide enough, as on my 40D it gives me 80mm, so no good. I like the 17-70 but I wanted something a bit quicker but thought it could come in handy as a carry around lens when I don't want all of my kit as well as a cheap macro. I did think after I posted about the 10-20 Sigma at a later date & get the 24-70 for now, so might have a look at that
