Hello! I'm new to this forum and fairly new to my camera, and was wanting some lens advice..

At the moment I have a d7000 with 35 and 50mm primes.

I don't have a particular style or subject preference yet.. And as such I'm looking for a general lens that will allow me to sort of zero in on that. Although I understand this is an extremely broad question, I was curious what recommendations some of you might have on this matter.

At the moment I'm looking at the sigma 17-50 ex f/2.8 OS.. as well as a number of others. Do you think this lens is worthwhile given the range my primes fall in?

Thanks for your time. :3

1300ish, but that's Canadian.. So lens prices will be different depending on where you are.

Prices being relative, to put it in perspective.. A little more than it costs to buy a D7000.

Ok I'd get a 17-50 2.8 and then a 70-300mm lens too (for wildlife, sports etc), covers all bases then and primes can be used for portraits, low light situations etc.

I'd also look at getting a Flash at somepoint, if you ever shoot people at night it makes a huge difference.

Not sure on the Nikon range though sorry.

Shabba's advice is good. 70-300 is a solid lens. The primes you currently have are also excellent. How about an UWA zoom in the 8-24mm range (nikon, tokina, or sigma) and skip the mid-range zoom as your primes already cover that area? Good luck deciding!

Ooof. There's so many options. One thing I've been considering is working with my primes for the mid range, getting a cheap(ish) UWA zoom.. and spending the majority of my cash on a 70-200 2.8 (sigma, of course. Nikon still far out of my $ range)

For some reason dedicating a lot of money to lenses meant for crop bodies makes me sad, so investing in lenses that -could- make the trip to a FX body is something i'm leaning towards.

Nikon 24-70 f2.8? It will survive the jump to full frame (where it will really come into its own!) and quite useful on the crop. Not sure exactly how much they're going for right now as I'm a Canon guy

Tokina 11-16 - wonderful lens... covers your wide angle bits...
Tele/zoom not sure, depends if you can get s/hand 50-500 sigma? Or if thats too big, tamron 80-400 maybe? Best to try all the above lens if you can before buying... Any lens hiring places near you ? Maybe you can test out the other lenses mentioned...
