guys i hate asking loads of questions but i need some help.

i have a canon 1100d and 3 lenes 50mm f/1.8 18mm.55mm f/3.5 and a 55mm.250mm f/4.

now i have recentley sold my radio controlled trucks and i have a bit of spare money so i want to get a different lens for around £300.00

i have been looking at a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM but its out of my price range at the moment so what alternatives are there that i could use

i like landscape photography and just walking about taking pics of anything and everything

Tamron 17-50 non VC can be had for around £180 used. They pop up every now and then in the classifieds. :)
 
ok thanks for that i have just had a look at a few on ebay and i think i could get the vc version under my budget

are there any other similar lenses i could consider

The two that have been mentioned are worth a look.

You mention landscapes.

As you already have the 18-55mm range covered - how about a 10-20mm wide angle such as the Sigma.

I would also recommend the Tamron 17-50, with or without VC.
 
ah i should have mentioned that i would be selling the 18mm.55mm its a decent lens but i want something a bit better realy.

and if i dont buy a new lens or camera my missus will waste the money on clothes again:lol:

thanks for the suggestions they have been a great help i think i will wait until the festive season ends before buying one

the 15mm.85mm looks to be ideal for what i want

Then I'd scrap my suggestion of an additional wider angle for landscapes and look for something like the others have suggested that will you offer more than your 18-55 kit lens in that focal length range.

I guess the main deciding factor is whether you want f2.8.
 
I guess a great all round lens is the Canon 15-85mm as has been suggested, It will take much better pictures than your kit lens and has a fairly wide angle perfect for landscapes.
 
thanks for all the replies and suggestions i think i have an idea of what im after now so im going to get christmas out of the way first then i will get a 60d and a canon 15-85 in the new year

Alternatively, wait a bit longer, save a bit more and look at getting your preferred choice of the Canon 17-55 lens
 
17 - 55 canon is offers a *** upgrade to your kit lens budget allowing..........
