Lencarta smartflash and yongnuo rf 603

Just tried my 603's. And using a pc sync to 3.5mm lead they work fine. Not sure about the 602, do they have a pc sync socket?

Can you explain a little more, im still a novice,
my camara 550d With rf 603 mounted on hot shoe and two more rf603 connected to smarts flashes via a lead using the larger connection on the rear of the transceiver (is that the pc sync) will the smartflashes fire wirelessly?

..and will any of them fire the camera as well as the flash heads ?

The rf-603's will. In that scenario you would need 3 RF-603 transceivers. One on camera hotshoe connected to cameras remote socket with appropriate lead. One connected to one of the smartflash heads using pc sync to 3.5mm jack (any other smartflash heads can be set to slave from this one). And one more to act as the remote for the whole setup.

Yes just as you have described would be the way to setup but you would actually only need two RF-603's as the second smartflash can slave from the first one. (unless you want to remote fire as above) And yes the pc sync socket is the bigger socket at the back. The smaller socket on the side is used to remote fire your camera with the appropriate lead.

For the RF603 you need this adapter
For the RF602 you need this adapter
And yes, both trigger/receiver systems will work.
I use the 602 extensively, as Garry Edwards will confirm.
Incidentally, I have no affiliation with either ebay seller, although I have bought from Cotswoldphoto on numerous occasions

I'm still spitting at Yongnuo for removing the ability to remote trigger a shutter from the hotshoe on the 603s - one of their really really annoying modifications.

I wanted to upgrade to get a slightly faster sync speed, but I guess that I'll be looking at the Phottix Strato IIs now.

Off topic - is their any real purpose to the Phottix Atlases anymore (or their namesakes) apart from the ability to work with PWs?

Given the range and triggering abilities of the Stratos I am really struggling to see any reason to opt for Atlases (or PW's, Odins or Poppers for that matter) unless you need pure wireless TTL (not the Altas of course!) .

Mark, I've always been happy with the 602 setup, which is in a similar class to the stratos and 603 etc.
When I bought them, I decided I would use them till they fell over, and then get the PW set I always fancied. Unfortunately, I bought the first batch to hit the UK shores, and the damned things are still going strong. They are in constant use, either firing my Lencarta Safari or a bunch of juiced up speedlights. I have one receiver that seems reluctant to wake on a half press, but no other problems after daily use over a number of years.
I looked longingly at the Atlas when it was first rumoured, but my money is still in the bedside drawer :(

I have to admit, I'm a sod for forgetting to change the batteries too, as they seem to last a hell of a long time before needing a change. Having said that, I cart a shedload of spares around anyway, including a box of 48 AAA baterries.

I do use RadioPoppers on the occasions that call for iTTL stuff, but not really that often. In fact, I could easily live without them. However, you'd have to take my 602s from my dying hands :)

The 602 has specific cables available to fire cameras. If you look at my previous post with the link to the 603 cable (yes, I know mentioned the 602) and follow the link, it will take you to the item being sold by Cotswoldphoto. Look at his other items for sale, and you will find he has the 602 camera triggering cables too. Just locate the one for your make and model.

I completely agree regarding the 602s and the set that I've got have proved very reliable, apart from 2 minor niggles;
They only sync at 1/200th and I'd like a fraction more (greedy I know).
The trigger occasionally works loose in the hotshoe; one of the reasons for looking at the Stratos.
The 603s & Stratos also have a slightly better range.

As I said above I really can't see the point of spending a huge amount on PWs unless you need the enhancements of TTL & HSS.

Which camera Mark?
I manage to get 1/250th on a D3, albeit with a slight hint of shutter shadow along the bottom. However, I tend to exploit that and use the camera upside down on occasions :p
Then it's only the ambient of the sky anyway.
Most times, even the slight shutter shadow isn't noticeable.

Previously on a 7D & 1DIII triggering a Nissin 866 and a Sigma 550Ex, but I haven't tried them on the new kit yet
