I am wondering if it is possible to use my 430EXII and RF602 to trigger lencarta flash. I have read here it is possible but don't see how?

I got a faulty trigger with my Lencarta kit and am wondering can I use the RF602s when waiting for the replacements.

You should have a sync lead. if you have one then it can be plugged into the sync socket, the lencarta would the trigger the 430 if it is set to slave.. or the other way round as the lencarta has a slave IR ..

Thanks Simon. I figured it out after. Just needed to take the flash out of slave mode and it triggered the smartflashs

That won't work. Canon guns won't slave off a non-Canon flash.

That will work (obviously ;) ) with the Canon gun in manual, but it does restrict you to having the 430 on camera or on a cord.

You can go wireless off-camera if you put the RF-602 on the 430, and that will then trigger the Lencarta in turn.

Crikey Canon need to catch up.. I had it in mind that one or two models didn't but even my Jessops 360 will do that... Looks like Canon really are behind in the off camera flash market...

I think it's deliberate. And well annoying!

Canon's E-TTL system is brilliant, and works really well with all-Canon kit, but when you step outside that, it has a few quirks which you need to work around.

This is not helped by Canon being very secretive about the inner workings of it all. I think it's one of the reasons why strobist folks prefer Nikon's more open system, which is more receptive to off-brand abuse.

Not really fair on Canon owners, Nikon's system is very good and seems to be fool proof. Would make life a little easier in some situations to be able to mix up the lighting.. I am at a strobist meet at the end of the month so it will be good to ask any canon users more on this..

I wonder how they can set the IR sensor up to not be triggered by other lights.. The only thing with the nikon and other brands, there is no CLS so everything is then manual.. Though not a major issue...
