Ok, what is the way the get the best out of a manual ring flash. I have attached it and got the exposure about ring then taken some shots which were ok. I even got some nice macro shots with the power on 1/128th but what it the normal technique with these things? I am only really used to using manual flash in the studio and setting up shots outside using the same techniques seems to slow the process right down.

Cheers, I did try and find something :)

Will take a look. It does look like a great bit of kit. Should have come with a couple of ND filters to go in the plastic cover in my opinion but great.

Used mine last friday as fill :) and a little bit of on its own, going to have another try this sunday :) but it'll be primary light source as its all outside shots :).

Cheers, I bought a dual Safari light setup a few months ago and always planned to get the ring light to go with it. I am stuck in bed at the moment so can't try it but it really does look great. Love Tomas's pictures though - very talented tog!

Did you use yours for action shots of kite boarders? If so I reckong it would be a great bit of kit for that.. I will add the ring at some point... Love the light and effect it gives..

Clingfilm;)

Clever idea... Is it not affected by the heat from the lamp? Would hate to laminate a new piece of kit...

Kiteninja, I am sure you could set it up so you don't get wet... Would be fun though...

I know the ring packs a punch :P but im not sure it would reach 50-100ft out to sea lol my normal setup is knee-waist hight in a little lagoon :), 5D has survived some spray so far not sure a big fat flash would.

Only the cover to the flash tube gets hot with repeated full power firing, and that bit doesn't need protection so the answer would be to use clingfilm all over and then cut away (stanley knife job) the bit over the flash tube cover.

This is kinda of off topic to his thread lol but.

The clear cover is only screwed on to the black backing piece, would bead of neat silicon seal the unit as the cord is held in place by a gasket thing on the bottom and there is no other holes.

Ah that sounds good.. Very useful for action shots at motorcross events or sports on a beach..
