First of all, I'm now back from our first Focus on Imaging show - and a very successful one it was too, with very positive feeback from visitors to our stand.
Because we only had a small stand we could only take a small selection of the products there but we managed to include the ElitePro heads, the Smartflash kit and the Safari, plus a couple of beauty dishes, softboxes and a few of our other specialised items - and people were very complimentary about our quality and prices, most of which are well under half of Elinchrom and Bowens prices. We didn't have any stock to sell because of our limited space but our trade customer Photomart was selling our products. They completely sold out on Tuesday!

Many thanks to all of the TP members who popped by to say hello, including a couple of admins.

We were giving a 5% discount on all web orders placed during the show and although that discount should have ended today, I've been given permission to keep it going until NEXT Wednesday, 17th March, so any orders you place up to then will get the discount... When asked for a coupon code, enter focusg

And in case you didn't know, Lencarta has donated a SmartFlash 200 kit to TP as the March competition prize, so be sure to enter!

Yep, you had a good stand! I had a look at those Smartflash kits and they look really nice piece of kit :)

Glad to see you had a successful event.

Still enjoying my Smartflash kit :)

If I've had an email from you it will have received a reply (unless you emailed during Focus, because I had a techy problem with my Blackberry phone which resulted in some emails not finding their way to Outlook)

The email address is support@lencarta.com

Garry

I need to know how to return some kit, you did response but had no response from Lencarta direct, if you could let me know the returns process.

thanks

I will get back to you, this is my first day back in my studio following an 18 hour day yesterday, and I've been away since Saturday. Now dealing with my own commercial work as well as everything else...

I appreciate that you have been away, was just disappointed in the lack of response from Lencarta

But you did get a response - I even made a point of logging into this forum while I was away and replying to a PM from you. In case you didn't see it, the message said " HI Carlo,

Bear with me, I'll get back to you when I'm back from Focus.

I've just seen your earlier messsage (Haven't logged in before) about ironing backdrops. There's no neeed to do that, there's a tutorial about avoiding creases on the Lencarta website, in the Learning Centre

Regards,

Garry"

Hi Garry i did see you response but what i meant not one from Lencarta themselves when contacted about returns.

I have decided to change the backdrop, which is the item i wished to return.

thanks

Hi Garry,

Do you have any images of the ringflash kit in the new grey colour?

Many thanks.

Glad you had a successful show

I did pass by you're stand a couple of times, both times you were answering questions for people, so I thought it best you continued to do so rather than gossip with me :)

Hi Garry,

Do you have any images of the ringflash kit in the new grey colour?

Many thanks.

Sorry, no. We only have 30 of them (or at least we had 30 2 days ago:) and I haven't got one at my studio.
They are a sort of light/mid grey colour

5% discount would be nice if it was still available for the first workshop I'm attending April 3rd ;). I'm looking to purchase my first home studio kit but I will wait till the workshop before making a decision.

Thanks Garry,
So is this grey colour the new colour from now on? Also is it just the battery box or the actual head too?

Many thanks :)

I'm told that both the generator itself and the flash head are grey.
This isn't a new colour as such, it's a one off batch and future ones will be black.

Basically, Lencarta designs the various products and supplies most of the parts (e.g. German flash tubes, Japanese capacitors) but uses 'standard' cases supplied by the assembly plant. The reason for using standard cases supplied by the factory is cost saving, the tooling cost for even a simple mono flash head is around £30,000 so Lencarta was faced with the choice of using factory-supplied cases on some models, or spending a fortune on unique cases or going the cheap route and using metal cases, which are very cheap to produce but which don't provide electrical insulation and which aren't anywhere near as tough as they look.

What happened here is that the assembly plant accidentally assembled a small batch of the Safari into cases that are normally used for the original version of this particular product, produced a few years ago (and still sold, cheaply, in other countries).

I assumed that they would be sent back, but because demand for the Safari is outstripping supply and a lot of people who saw them at Focus wanted them it was decided that they should be made available.

All is explained on this Why Choose Lencarta page on the website, under 'Production'

Thanks Garry,

I will hang on to my old 4000ws for a while and upgrade when the black ones are back in stock.

Many thanks.

Dammit!
I checked the list of vendors and didn't see you listed, so didn't look for the Lencarta stand (and yet I swear I trailed around every stand at least four times).
I particularly wanted a look at the Safari setup. Well, that's just twisted the rest of my day for me

:bang:

You need a Satnav AND a compass to find anyone there, even if you know the stand number:'(
Not helped by the fact that we weren't on the exhibitor list, because we were sharing the large Photomart stand...

Sorry about that, but we did post on this forum saying that we would be there and where we would be.

Give me a ring if you're ever up Bradford/Leeds way, the Safari is in my studio and you can have a real play with any of the Lencarta gear here, which has to be better than just looking at it:)

I was just far too busy in the run up to Focus to log in to TP. In fact, I left two of the tickets behind in the last minute rush.
I gave most of the lighting stands only a cursory lookover, because they weren't Lencarta. But if I'd paid more ruddy attention, I may have spotted the Lencarta stuff at the Photomart stand.

However, on the upside, thank you very much for the offer, which I will certainly take up at the appropriate time. It'll likely be a specific trip, rather than leave it to coincide with an assignment.

I missed you at Focus - just ran out of time. I'm interested in a smartflash kit but on your site there is no option to add a radio trigger.

Photomart have a kit available which seems to work out cheaper and that includes a radio trigger. Are all the items the same as yours or do they use some non-branded stuff alongside the lights?

try this http://www.lencarta.com/kit-builder

There 'should' be a choice of radio trigger, mains and battery powered, but the mains powered ones are out of stock, which takes away the choice on the website.

The Photomart kit is (should be) the same, although of course they're entitled to include other items if they want to, I very much doubt whether they do. Are you sure they're cheaper? Lencarta prices include VAT, I don't think that Photomart prices do.
It's also not accepting the focusg discount code.
This thread is over a year old:) the current coupon code is focus - not focusg

I was just on the ordering page, I presume there are no Air Damped Stands as wanted to pay the little extra and get those rather than the standard ones

Adrian

Ah, didn't notice the date!

Have I misunderstood? The kit builder says 'The radio transmitter' then says 'mains powered trigger set' and 'battery powered trigger set'. I thought they were three different things but are the latter two different types of radio triggers (sorry I'm new to this).

Does it make much difference? What does the lead to plug in to the mains come off? I used one that clips onto the camera hot shoe on a course but have no idea about any other sections that were there.

The Photomart prices is £287.88 inc. vat with two softboxes.

Sorry, sold out. New stock will be about 5 weeks.

They are 2 different things, battery powered and mains powered. Each consists of 1 transmitter and 1 receiver.

With mains powered flashes you can use either, or at least you can buy either when the mains powered ones are in stock. The mains powered receiver plugs into the mains lead and then into the back of the flash, the battery powered one has it's own batteries. The mains powered one has an effective range of 15 metres, the battery powered one has an effective range of 40 metres.

Thanks for that Garry, small question, If I use the focus discount, that will take it just below £300 does that mean I cant use my £30 discount for the lighting course I did with Jonathan :) I had to ask....

I don't worry about pennies, the £300 is just an arbitary figure that isn't carved in stone

Are the mains powered ones better? In a thread on here someone was recommending swapping battery ones for mains.

Also, are the 120cm octa softboxes the folding ones? Photomart have a 95cm folding octa softbox but I can't see that on the Kitbuilder.

Personally I prefer them, but a radio trigger is a radio trigger is a radiotrigger...

The problem with Lencarta is that there are so many accessories - I think more than any other manufacturer, so only a limited number are available in the kit builder. If they were all available the choices would go on for ever. Most people using the kitbuilder are happy with the non-folding softboxes, but when more pressing problems with the website have been sorted out it may be possible to change the options and include a couple of folding softboxes.

That sounds tempting - would that be after the discount ends though and would you have an idea how much extra it would be? I've got limited room for storage at the moment.
