Leica SL

Jim, I really don't see why this is such an issue... The Leica is the size of a 6D, hardly massive... and no amount of "it just is..." will convince me otherwise :D

I wasn't trying to convince you, I was just saying how I found it. It was bigger in form with the kit lens than my 6d with 24-105. I except the body on its own is relative to the larger DSLRs (though ergonomically it's terrible) but as a native system its size is way too big.

My point was to the OP as I've already said - it's not going to provide him with a small walkabout system. As I said already, no matter how deep his pockets are $14,000 on this (if he bought it with the kit lens) would be a waste of money. At least - for what the OP required - as a true walkabout system.

It has a lovey top display though.

The OP would be far better off with a Sony RX1R for he best quality small walkabout. Or a Sony A7r2. That's my point in a nutshell. But, no doubt he has his heart set on the SL.

I'll shut up now. Obviously having held it I'm still not qualified to offer an opinion on its size and ergonomics (and if I truly disliked Leica I wouldn't have attended their exhibition!).

size matters.............. seriously though its a nice looking camera and when you hold one it reaks of quality... but the rrp always scares me if you have the cash tho do it..... as long as you budget in a good lens..... tbh you can get better results with other cameras no doubt about it tho

Size matters but sometimes smaller is better. The way I see it, you might just get a picture with a GM5 that you wouldn't with a 5D. Other times, it might be the other way around. The thing is, if you want something you want it and if you don't, you don't.

Anyway, my GM5 has a lot more red on it than just a measly little dot. :)

Well, I just bought one along with a new Noctilux 0.95. I have a buddy that uses this combo for everything and when I tried it it was enough to pull the trigger
Pictures to follow

I look forward to it, I'd quite like the noctilux for my SL, just the 90-280mm was more practical for my needs right now. I will have to wait until next year.

Good news............Leica shares just jumped 5%

My plan is to just use the SL with the Noctilux as a walk about/travel camera............which I do most of the time. I traded in all my M gear for the Leica S system so I don't have any other M lenses. I use my S for landscape/studio camera. Nikon for Safari/Birds
Hasselblad for Film

I think I'm set now :)

Dan how do you like the long zoom...............are you using it for wildlife??

Captive 'wild'life is more appropriate :) my wife has a 55-210 on her A6000 so I can shoot with her, started locally at birdworld - it's a good way to get use to the system.

I'll be using it more for events/weddings though - it was to replace and at the same time give me more flexibility than my 85mm on the Nikon.

The day I received it I shot a high fashion shoot, it was a joy to use :)

It's a little difficult to process the images at times, they look so good in RAW that I'm wondering what I can do to possibly improve them :D

And on the SL itself - I particularly love the shutter noise (great for these events), and the movie like quality of the EVF..

That's weird it looked slightly soft at normal viewing size, but at 1:1 the detail is incredible. I've had that issue myself with images exported from LR in the past, looked slightly soft until I started to zoom in. I contacted adobe about it and they told me it's something to do with the way sharpening is applied and files sizes or something, tbh they lost me

It's not really any different from fuji... just ask em :)
I do wonder if folk genuinely can't see the difference, or if they just have to justify their gear? Either way, as long as folk are happy with their own results that's all that matters ;)
