Ujjwal, you are a legend. This camera is just what i was after. Well built, small and easy to use.

I got my Leica CL today and it looks in really good condition. The lens looks mint (it looks like it has been under a UV filter it's entire life and the rubber hood is in great condition too. I need to get a battery to test the meter although i've read they often need replacing. Can't wait to get a film through it, home develop it and then go off to the darkroom to do some printing!

Thanks again,

Stavros

Congratulations Stravos. Just remember to set your ISO 2 steps lower than the actual ISO on the film. And get a 90 mm ( tele elmarit or a mountain elmar will be my recommendation, though a Rokkor might be cheaper)

Enjoy the camera; its a great one. Legend has it that this was actually one of the most successful of all Leica cameras; and Leica stopped produciing it because it was eating into the M sales. It reappeared as Minolta CLE

Ujjwal

P.S : just struck me to clarify : I did not sell him the camera, simply suggested he get it. He got it from a regular source. I still have mine ( lest someone thinks I sold you one on the side, Cyp)

I think you do get them; but only in China :D

Its illegal to make, sell, import or use mercury batteries that are made after 1997(or some such date) in most parts of the world

Smallbatteries.com sell them sometimes from old stock, but dont guarantee performance...

So you are stuck with lithium and 2 point ISO adjustment ( unless you send it for a complete calibration; or buy a diode adapter ( I personally never saw the point, especially for print films which has a large tolerance)

Thanks. I guess if the meter is bust then a calibration might be in order as well.

Just check the RF accuracy though - use 4 known distances 1m, 3m 5m and infinity( the moon); and see if the lens is showing the accurate reading. CL Rfs sometimes get out of alignment.

I would not go to the extent of fixing the meter; unless you really really need it . Much better to buy a Leica MR4 or if you are flush a CV meter.

Do you mean: choose an object at 1m, 3m etc, focus with the rangefinder and then see what the lens says?

I've already got a Weston Master for using with my Pentacon. It's just a bit bulky and another thing to carry around.

yes buddy, thats what i meant ( sorry about saying it in such a clumsy way)

Nah, no Weston. A CL deserves a Leica meter.

Not usually very expensive - something like 40 - 60 quids. And will hold its value pretty well
