Left or right? - maybe a dumb question......

Where would you say the "Yellow A" is?

OK - bear with me, I'll keep this as simple as possible.........

When you say "the left hand side of the image" - when you refer to a photo - do you mean

a) Left from the photographers point of view (right from the subjects POV)

or

b) Left from the subjects point of view (right from the photographer's POV)

e.g.

Would you refer to the yellow A as being left or right?


Had so many discussions (yeah I need to get out more) e.g. - when people say "Look at the left side of the image"

i would say left handside of an image is the viewers left.weather it be a page in a book,painting or photo the left or right is the viewers left or right.just my thoughts.
 
I would say A is on the left as would most I would say.

But a lot of people on here do say Subject's left or right.
Which obviously means from teh subjects POV.

I'd say it's on the viewers left, I only tend to refer to the subjects POV when talking about their features or appendages but will mention 'subject' rather than 'image' for example.

The A is on the left of the image, the man in the kilt's LEFT hand is in his pocket.
 
Since the image is presented from the photographers POV/perspective and I'm assuming the photographer is asking the question, point "A" is left of frame.

Unless stipulated otherwise, I assume the frame as viewed, is the reference.

It's up to you as the photographer to make clear what you expect from your subjects before composing and taking the shot.

I've never been aware of any set rules although I'm open to correction.

I blame it all on the evil witch who made me change hands when i was 6....... and I can see the logic - point to the left hand side of the book, paper, aeroplane, you name it.........

but then the left hand side of the plane is the left hand side of the plane, which could be the right hand side (as you look at it as it comes towards me.........)

Just really interesting to read other peoples interpretations of whats left or right etc when discussing photos..........

I used to be in the left is left as I look at it, but lately have come to think of things from the subjects view........... :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Yellow A is in the bottom left corner :clap:

Quick question why is it the the left - right axes are reversed but not the top bottom when you look in a mirror or take a shot:thinking::thinking:
 
always from the viewer's perspective, so A being left, B being right. If I am talking about the POV from the subject, I will say so.
 
If I was talking to the subjects, I would tell them to move to THEIR left or right.
9 times out of 10, if you tell them to move left, thats the way they would go.
