It finally got too much for me: The porn, the MySpace cam whores, the idiots posting snapshots and calling it art, the same idiots not being able to take crit, the pervs collecting hundreds of nude/glam pics and calling themselve 'art appreciators'. So I'm leaving deviant art. I just wish I'd done it sooner before the pervs got their hands on my nude/glamour work.

Anybody else ever been registered there and left for similar reasons?

I don't think I've got them online anywhere now  Just hid my entire gallery on dA, waiting for a response to an email about deleting my entire account.

I must admit that when I have looked at DA I had problems working it all out. As you say it appeared to be a forum largely for exhibitionists & letchers (spelling?) or am I wrong?

I thought that was the point in it? With a name like Deviant Art is not aiming at the stamp collector / train spotter demographic....

It's aimed at all kinds of artists from artisans to photographers to cosplayers (who make their own costumes) but invariably you get people posting shapshots of their last night out. The place is swarming with pervs and people who just don't get what it's all about. They use it like myspace or facebook, or worse, a dating site. It's pathetic.

Never seen myspace or facebook but doesn't sound like I'm missing out!

i found DeviantArt to be the place it's acceptable for guys to post nude pictures of themselves... not what i want to see when i'm browsing images.

so i moved to Flickr - happy happy :D

I use to be able to deal with the crap, but there's so much of it now, and they good stuff's even harder to find because there's less and less of it.

I've used deviantart but very rarely use it.
I haven't noticed any porn, although it's not the stuff I look for - I think I've had a very mild experience considering a few replies here!

It used to be excellent, but it's gone downhill rapidly, and it's a real shame.

I created an account about 3 or 4 months ago. Never used it and haven't been back since. Didn't really appeal to me. I've got a Model Mayhem account too... I can see that going the same way.

I set up an account ages ago to see some of Robs (Arkadys) work which was excellent, but I have to admit I have never used it since and wouldnt know how to get back in as I dont remember my password or username, I didnt look at the other posters so dont really know how good/bad it is

DeviantArt, the name says it all really

I first heard of DeviantArt from a friend some 4 or 5 years ago - I went, I saw, I left

It used to be quite a good resource as others have said, but I notice a lot of the people I used to watch haven't posted in a long time and that it's populated by penis-shots to a greater degree than before...
It goes through phases - a couple of years ago, it was all teenage-goth angst and cam-whores, which is pleasant enough in it's own way...
Really tacky stuff gets deleted pretty quick though, you just have to be selective as to what you look at...

I have to agree that the overall standard of submissions is way below what it was in the past...

Flickr looks to be just as effective as a sharing tool, so i'm loading everything over to that now...and then I'll just have a bare-bones account left on dA to keep track of the few pervs I do take an interest in...lol

 my dA account has nothing on it at all anymore, and it'll stay that way. I already use Flickr a bit, will be using it more, especially as I have a Pro account as I'm a BT Internet sucker, er, I mean customer.

I still use it. Sold an image to a company in Mumbai who used it for an advertising campaign.

For that reason alone I think it's worth keeping low res images up there with a contact email. You just never know!

Forgive the OT here. Guy, so AR bought your image? Its just that it looks like they do CGI images (rather than ad campaigns), so it looks like they bought your work and have put it on their portfolio as something theyve created?
Im confused :p

Well in all fairness they probably used their CGI expertise to add the car in there. At least I assume that's what they did.

AFAIK IW commisioned AR to produce graphics for an advertising campaign. AR did the 3D rendering and dropped it onto my background and sold the graphics to IW, who then made them into ads and published them. I believe it was used in national newspapers and billboards across southern Asia!

if they could CG the car, they could have easily CG'd the background :P
