Yes
Got fed up with BT charging me over double the price of other providers for the same service .... So I left them!!!

They still seem to think that they have a monopoly on services .... :rules:

Pretty mixed reviews on the net about Tiscali but thought I would give them a try.

Anyone else with them?

I've been happy enough with Tiscali (I have two separate accounts with them) although their billing department is woeful.

Repeatedly they have failed to take their payment (for up to 3 months) and then they send a red letter threatening disconnection AND take 3 months payments out the bank at the same time

The thought that comes to mind involves a brewery and an organised drinking session.....;)

I was using them for 3 months and found there service in my area to be rubbish, I switched back to BT they might be more expensive but I never have any issues and I have just had monthly costs reduced. Service is always up and running,,,, with tiscali I was only getting 1.5 meg with BT I get 3 meg.

Take into account I live in the stick's and have an antiquated exchange..

Managed to bring my monthly bill down from over £36 to £15 for broadband and phone.

Had a very good service from BT .... Hardly any down time over the last year.

Would have stayed with them if they could have got anywhere near Tiscali's price.

Been with BT for many years now, and never any problems. Recently brought my upto 8Meg service down to £23, and gave me a free Home Hub, for committing to another 12 months.

:D

I didn't consider Tiscali TBH.

Did a fair amount of online research and the number of complaints were huge enough for me to turn my attentions elsewhere. Ok, people only usually tend to post if there's a problem, but these far exceeded BT, with you'd expect BT having a larger number of subscribers.

Am with BT Total Broadband, with free home hub and hub telephone and service has only outted me once in two months so far. As for connection speed, its around 3.4 MB/ps

I've been with Virgin baodband for almost 5 years now. No contract. Never had downtime and no problem encountered.

I`ve used tiscali for 4 years and so far apart from a couple of times when i have not being able to conect to the interweb i have had no problems.

Been with Tiscali for a number of years now for Broadband and phone. Never had any major problems but when I have it's difficult to sort out as their help line is in India and I have terrible trouble understanding the accent. I've also found them good a giving a credit when the service isn't available for a period. I've got the 'Up to 8Mbs sevice' but rarely get over 5Mbs

talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. What possessed you to go with tiscali?

I pay £10 a month for up to 8mps - from a supplier that consistently receives accolades for it's UK based customer call centre.

I've heard rumours that tiscali is going to be taken over?

I was with them for a few years-no complaints at all, only changed to O2 to get a 20mb service.

BT has done me good for many years now ... ... and just got a discount on my new renewal too ... :D

:p

I've been with Tiscali for 18 months or so. Its quite a reliable service really. Its a bit slow where I live, but that is area dependant I guess.

However, I'm not sure if switching from BT to Tiscali is a good move. I have heard quite a few good reports about the BT service. The only down side is that its a bit pricey?

YOu are dicing with your broadband. IMHO you either need to be with BT or Virgin. I have never heard of anyone who has had good service off anyother provider. They have billing problems, downtime or speeds nowhere near the advertised rates.

Bewarned. In broadband, like most things, you get what you pay for.

The thought that comes to my mind is TalkTalk the biggest shower .........etc ever to hit the service provider market.

what about sky if you have sky there deal seems really good?

Ive saved Pounds with sky fast conection all for a fiver a month Big Thumbs up from me

I recently left Tiscali. They gave me a MAC code to ensure a smooth change over and reminded me not to cancel my direct Debit, as they would automatically do this when the changeover process was complete.
5 months later and they were still using the Direct Debit !
I stopped the Direct Debit at my Bank and demanded a refund from Tiscali, which I eventually got.

I forgot to mention that the £15 per month includes line rentel.

My father lives in southern Spain and he has no choice as to which supplier he has ... There is only one!!

It took him three months to get connected .... ... The down time is horrendous and speed is not much more than dial-up at times.

Everything in Spain is 'mañana mañana'

I'm with Sky. When first joined up the router they give you is totally useless. Following recommendation from my pc engineer I've now got a Linksys one. What a difference! Very good. The Linksys router has bits on top (sorry can't remember what they're called!) that make it look like some space telescope for searching for alien life! Was in fact contacted last week by some green men from Mars!!

You don't listen in the right places, there are many isps who knock BT into a cocked hat in terms of reliability and service.

In my time I've been through a succession of service providers, all of them were good enough until you encountered a problem, or until they were bought by Pipex...

Decided in the end to pay the premium and go with ZEN, in four years I've never had to contact their help desk once, their network just stays up.

I use Virgin media, phone with free calls 24/7 to normal rate lines, freeview TV basic pack as it's all mostly crap anyway and 10mb BB no download limits all for £27 a month. I just phoned a few times and complained about the cost and didn't want to pay for the TV as I can use freeview and I got that price after a bit more haggling ;)

changed over to bt home hub last year :clap::clap::woot::woot::woot: best move i ever made i was with orange before that always losing my connection since ive been on bt never been off line

I'm with an ISP called Andrews & Arnold. Not the cheapest by a long shot, but I pay them £9/month line rental (no BT bills for me!), and £26/month for 8meg (moving to 24 in a month or so). I also pay £1/month for an IP phone service, and my phone bill for last month came to about 4p.
If I was at home all day, their tariff wouldn't work for me since usage limits are quite strict between 8am and 6pm. Outside of this it's uncapped, and I get all sorts of whizzy stuff like public IPs, SMS notifications of line failure, graphs showing latency, and *excellent* technical support - all the staff are on IRC (including the director!).

I would like a 2nd line for daytime usage, and would probably go with Be or O2 - it just annoys me having to pay line rental on another line from BT!

I forgot to mention that the £15 per month includes line rentel.

That's fantastic. Their advertising is great isn't it? £14.99 for broadband and line rental.

But after three months it goes up (to £20 I think). So the cost of their service over the life of the minimum contract, with the lower first three months, the higher rate thereafter and the set up fee is.... no longer such a great deal :nono:

Been with BT for years - not had any problems.

However, IF I ever felt the need to change, it would be to go to ZEN.

I'm with freedom2surf, which is now part of the tiscali group. Now I've had a few problems over the years, their network is nowhere as reliable as it was before the pipex/tiscalli take over.

I pay £13.99 for an 8 meg service with 10gm a month usage limit 1am - 8am no limit. 200meg webspace with sql database.

My main compliant is speed it used to be rock steady at 5800kbs but over the last 12 months it's all over the place from 1500kbs to 6300kbs, Now people just down the road with ZEN get a solid 6677 kbs.

I'd like to go with ZEN but I'm a cheapskate

That will teach me not to put too much info down when I type ... :D

I am on option 1 ... This costs me £9.99 for the first 3 months and then £14.99 for the remainder of the contract. There is a £30 conection fee.

Tiscali will cost me £194.88 for the first year.

BT would have cost me about £450 for the same period. When I told them I was thinking of leaving they were only willing to drop the price by £5 per month.
