in th market for filter system.
i need informative replies to make decision.

This topic has been discussed at length on here if you do a search. In the end it's down to your budget. You get what you pay for with filters as with most things. If you can afford Lee, get them. If you cant, get HiTech. If you cant afford HiTech, get Cokin
 
I am after a filter system. Lee is way out of my price range. Think i will start with Cokin for now.
 
I had the Cokin P filters but I noticed my pics having a purple tinge, easy to rectify in PP so not a huge issue. Brought some Hitech 85 filters based on the comments here, good for the money but probably not Lee standard, they are not that much more than the Cokin's either. Another plus is I can use my Cokin holders and rings as well.
 
Buy cheap, buy twice.
Buy Lee and be content that you have the best. I don't think many would argue against Lee being better than Cokin, so if you can afford Lee, go for it. Buy the foundation holder and a few hard+soft ND grads.
I have 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 in hard, soft and solid. Also Sky filter set. To be honest, it's too much. Just go for 0.6 hard, 0.6 soft and 0.9 solid ND to start with.
 
Agree if you buy lee now you only buy it once... If you buy cheap you will waste money and wish you bough the best from the start cheaper in the long run
 
As others have said lee Hitech then cokin in that order. The othert thing to take into consideration is a CPL, this needs to be the filter the light enters so with the lee filters ( and the hiech to from what I understand) you will need a 105mm filter and adaptor ring, I got the B&w kassman CPL and these cost about £300 ontop of the Nd grads and filter holder.

You can use normal screw in CPL with a bit of patience. I've done it, it just takes time to get everything angle right.

Lee resin aren't the best either. I am now wanting something glass and multicoated to fight flare and ghosts.
 
I wouldn't waste the money on cokin (I did). Terrible magenta tinge on their ND and ND grads.
 
I own Cokin (and knockoff) I'm seriouslythinking about moving upmarket the colour cast on the strong ND's is too much.

I have read that the CPL should be the first filter due to the way the light acts if it has been through the other filters first.

Let's face it nothing is the best unless its made by canon ;)

I'm not a great user of filters so I just bought Cokin more to play with than anything really. They are cheap so you can't expect them to be the best but one thing that I've never noticed is this much reported colour cast.
