Lee Little Stopper

I know another brand filter that they have 1.8[six stops] glass filter before LEE has made one, i don't know about their quality, but i don't think getting glass filter you will see too much differences, i have their 0.9ND and GND both glass, i didn't test yet but i am thinking to give thema try, if they are good enough then i don't need to buy expensive LEE, they have this 6-stops for about US$60 [£36].

I'm not sure I'll be ordering this just yet. I have the B+W ND64 MRC which does the same thing. For some reason I prefer B+W's ND110 over the Big Stopper. I never got on with the cold cast from the Lee.

I'll be ordering one, but not through Robert White this time. The rumour mill appears to be spinning up that they've not even got an account with Lee anymore as the company folded.

Would make sense when you look at what they are not selling these days.
Be a pity, I purchased so much kit from them when I lived in Hampshire. None of which they now list.

Interesting as Robert White web site has just about every Lee filter listed as in stock and as Mark states, Lee are still quoting them as official Lee retailers.

I've just seen Mark Bauer post this up, so hopefully a great sign for the guys over at RW. Good too hear they'll be around still as they're a great company.

"The Little Stopper can be ordered from Robert White Photographic. Reports of their demise have been greatly exaggerated and their stock arrives tomorrow."

There's also this from RW's Facebook page..

"Good afternoon; it appears there are countless rumours and stories going around regarding us; so, what is happening to RW Photographic ?
Robert White (the person) after 32 years in business has retired and sold his business: Robert White Photographic to his good friend Hardy Haase who owns Flaghead Photographic; who will continue to run the business offering all the current products: Lee, Arca, Fogg, Ebony etc and honouring back orders.
We hope everybody will join us in wishing Robert a good retirement and success to Hardy."

Mark Bauer has done a review of the Little Stopper in the latest issue of Landscape Photography Magazine, out last week.

I should be getting mine delivered today to test out.

Looks a nice addition to the Lee filter line-up, mainly for anyone who doesn't already have the 10 stop though, I can't see me needing both

Simon

It will be most useful for long exposures at dawn or dusk, when the Big Stopper would see you end up with too long an exposure running to many minutes or compromising on IQ by upping the ISO to achieve the exposure length you needed. I will get one and have a Big Stopper already, I can see a good use for it.

I have been wondering about this as well. I have the big stopper and also the pro glass ND 0.9 (3 stop) too and wondering if there is a need. But then again, Im thinking about the flexibility of having 3 stop, 6 stop and 10 stop! Lots of possibilities!

Fair enough Mark, I don't tend to use the 10 stop all that often anyway and as I already have a 4 stop ND and a polariser the 6 stops is covered anyway if I needed it.. sure it will be a good filter though

Has anyone tried using both Big Stopper and Little Stopper at the same time (stacked)? I tried a long exposure shot with this setup but my shots has light leaks. Has anyone experienced this?

Not tried it but are you covering your viewfinder during the exposure? This can have an effect on your shot. Does your big stopper have the right gasket for the holder, is it sealed to the holder?

Got myself one from Dale Photographic, quite impressed with it, cant see me using my ten stopper much now, this far better suits what I use it for.

Just looked at Long Time app and with 20 stops @ 30 seconds it shows a One year exposure :)
Does that take into account that the light drops at night? I reckon to be safe you ought to auto bracket your exposures - 6 months, one year and two years...

how is everyone getting on with the little stopper? Not realising that Lee were planning a little stopper I got the Hitech 8 stop filter at the end of february and used it once - the colour cast was extreme vs my big stopper - but 8 stops is exactly the balance I find i need between 5 stops (lee 0.6 and 0.9 combo) and my big stopper, especially at dusk.

I'm just not sure whether a six stop is going to add any value (unless i combine it with the 0.6 ND).

Has anyone got a review and what is the colour cast like.
