I am in the process of upgrading my Cokin P system to Lee Filters and after quite long research decided on getting myself a Lee Universal hood that does come with user changable filter holder (initially for with 2 slots).

The crucial ability for me is to be able to use polarizer with this but this is where I am getting a bit confused by information available so if anyone has an experience with this please do reply here. It looks as though Lee produced 2 versions of this Universal hood - up until recently (part number FHULS) it didn't specify the capability of use Lee 105mm polarizer. The newer versions sold by Robert White (part number LULH) seem to have this ability and specifies explicitly that it takes a 105 mm polariser adaptor ring. The Lee site also specifies that in their FAQ but states that this is fairly recent addition.

I guess this is where I am getting a bit confused - the Universal hoods seems to be user modifiable so the question is was it not possible to add the polarizer ring to the older version of this hood? Anybody here has this experience that you can share please?

I would give Robert Whites a call, their advice and customer service is excellent, I have never had any duff advice from them.

Thanks, just gave them a call and they did explained that Universal hood exists in one version and was always able to take on polarizer ring.

I already use Lee filters but looking at options for a hood - the universal appears the one to go for - Use a 40D with 17-40 but hope to get a 10-22 at some stage soon.

Just wondering about the physical size of the Universal hood - I read on the Speedgraphic website that the "Front frame size is 175x145mm". Seems quite large - wondering if any owners can confirm this & how they find it in general use?

Is it something you'd only fit when you need to or is it practical to keep permanently attached as one might a normal lens hood (or as I used to with a Cokin P holder + hood) ??

Thanks Folks :)

Personaly i wouldnt waste my money on them, Filters are fiddly enough and as long you you can shade the lens abit so as not to loose contrast i dont see much use for one.
