Yes
I am really thinking about getting the LEE filter system but unsure which to buy. I would like to get the LEE filter system and the big stopper.

Do I have to get a specific fit filter system or does it fit any lens? I have a Sony A700 and wanted to fit it to a 55mm lens.

Also not sure which starter kit to get as there appears to be two.

You'll need a 55mm adaptor and the foundation kit. The adaptor fits onto your lens and the foundation kit(holder) clips onto the adaptor ring. You then need the filters themselves which can be hard to get hold of due to LEE not being able to keep up with demand. I use hitech filters instead of the LEE ones as they are less expensive and in better supply. I would recommend www.teamworkphoto.com as a supplier, who have provide me with excellent service and they stock both Lee and Hitech.

Yes, all you need is a 55mm adaptor ring and the foundation kit.

I take it you want the Big Stopper for daytime long exposures? You might want to consider getting a 0.9 graduated filetr to compliment the Big Stopper in order to hold the sky back a little. Depending on what you normally shoot you have the choice of a soft or hard edged grad.

dalephotographic have stock on the Big Stopper, at least they did when I ordered a few weeks back.

Yeah I am after the big stopper but can't find it on that website. I also noticed they do a starter kit but I think I will get the foundation kit and adaptor ring and then a filter ideally a big stopper. Although will a 0.9 filter be any good for taking photos in the daylight? Also should I really get a better lens before I get this as it would be used on my kit lens which I feel that it may let it down a bit.

big stopper not cheap just got mine on thursday forgot name of the company well it sound like morroco or something og the top my head but there a waiting list for it .

so if some one have it in stock good luck i waited about 3 mnths for mine

Try speed graphic or call Lee direct.

Chris

You don't need to buy a set or a kit.

You don't even need a filter holder.

For starters you can just choose one ND grad (if that's your priority) and see how you get on with it. You can hold the filter carefully against the rim of the lens - which is quite easy if you use a tripod. You can see the effect of the lens in the viewfinder as you move it up and down.

A 2stop hard ND grad would be a good starting point although I use a 1stop (together with a screw-in polariser) for natural looking skies .

I bought a Cokin Z Pro filter holder off Ebay.
Cheaper than the Lee filter holder and does the same job.

My Nikon owning mate has the Lee kit and has adapter rings attached permanantly on each of his lenses so its just a case of clipping on holder.
I liked this idea and decided to go down the same road but the Canon lens caps won't fit with the adapter attached - OCH!!

Just had a look, appears they took it off the website, its under this section normally:

Maybe worth calling them to see if they will be getting stock :)

There is a cap that Lee do which you can use. Not exactly sure what it is but have a couple of Canon weilding friends who use them. I sure someone will be along to explain better.

I'm Canon, and now have my main lenses permanently fitted with adapter rings and Lee Filters lens caps... cost approx £3.50 for a pack of 3.

Piccy here.

still not sure if to get the Lee filter system, the big stopper seems very hard to get. Also I cant get my head around is how do you use the big stopper? Do you have to compose your photo first and then put the camera in manual and take the photo, has anybody got a step by step guide on how to take a photo with the big stopper?

Also I am still not sure if to go for the Cokin Z Pro filter system, can you get filters that able you to take long exposures during the day?

I haven't actually got any filters for my setup yet so would like some just not sure, I am not sure either if to get some everyday filters like graduated filters etc. Any advice would be great

It may help your decision process if you look at the following thread http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=269157 I posted two shots using stacked Cokin ZPro and a Heliopan 10 stop and circ polariser, there is also a post in the same thread showing a horrible magenta cast with Cokins so you pays your mone and takes your chance.

Chance would be a fine thing  I have been trying to get hold of either the Cokin z-pro u960 kit or the Lee mount and 0.3 0.6 0.9 grads. Everywhere reputable is on back order and has been for weeks.

Hitech can supply the filters, holder and adapter ring in a wek if that helps :)

As above really.

I have an a700 although don't use any 55mm lenses.

I currently use a Lee Foundation Kit and have a polariser ring on order.

I use hi-tech filters, the only dislike I have for them is the colour casting when you stack them. Hopefully the new 1.2's which are coming tomorrow will stop me doing this.

I have a Lee Big stopper which I've only just got, you can get that from Morco with a wait of 6-8 weeks but they do a lot of Lee stuff cheaper than most places (most places look cheaper then sting you with VAT after), also helps they're only down road from me.

sorry if I'm teaching anyone to suck eggs here but make sure your lens is 55 diameter not 55mm focal length - something about your op made me think you might be looking at the focal length not the diameter (circle with line through it). Apologies if I'm off on that.

Have you thought about trying welding glass 1st to see how the daytime long exposures go? Welding Glass = £1 approx and 2 elastic bands or a step up ring to glue it to. Check this thread out....

Other than that...

I just bought the Lee Foundation kit + adaptor from Calumet - free delivery ( they arrived next day ) and slightly cheaper than teamwork where you have to add VAT to their prices. No offence meant to Teamwork - just looking after the pennies, will probably go to them for my filters though
