Yes
Can I just ask!!
I'm new to photography to be honest, but is it normal that the more you Lean to begin with the worse you seem to think your doing?
What's the general feeling on this?

That's perfectly normal, and the reason so many give up. They have been led to believe that photography these days is so much easier, as it's all "done by computers, innit" :)

Stick with it.. make mistakes, learn from them, read a great deal, study, work hard. There's no quick fix.. another thing people always want these days... so keep at it and enjoy the journey.

I put together a beginner's guide to exposure here..

Take a browse through that with your camera to hand. Don;t forget to just ask in here if you get baffled by something.

Making mistakes is really the only way to learn. An analogy would be: I could spend years teaching someone how to ride a bike, but they have to get on that bike, and fall off a few times before they finally get it.

Haha!

Yeah...that sounds about right.

Peaks and troughs.

My advice is, ride your surfboard. It's a fun ride as long as you remember you are improving.

I'd go as far as to say your current experience is an important part of the process.

Edit: Cross posted with pookeyhead. Needless to say, I agree.

It's true in all things, not just photography. We start unaware of what we don't know, then were aware what we don't know, then we know stuff and then we can do stuff without thinking about it.
How many times have you driven to work and then couldn't remember the journey, but you'll be sure you drove competently and safely whilst your mind was elsewhere.

If there is one thing for sure i won't give up, I'm loving it, learning even if a lot at the moment you guys would laugh at, Not getting frustrated was just a general question

Will have to upload some pics anyway and then you can all rip me to bits!!!oops i mean tell me what I'm doing wrong

By the way i have mainly used my app when on here, i am now on my computer as some sections say permission denied so I'm not even sure if i can upload anything?:bang::bang:

Help!!

Im using a mac too, and thats a whole new headache

Was on an age last night trying to upload a pic to here! Is it me or are iMacs a little hard at first?
This must be one of my biggest mistakes to date! Learning photography, and swapping to apple iMac at the same time!! Lol

After my first days photo's I felt like taking the camera back to the shop for my money back!!

Only joking, I knew I wouldn't get instant results, got a couple of good shots but I needed a hobby and something to learn and get my teeth into. And being visual the results will speak for themselves I suppose.

Learning any new process takes a few goes, but I'm struggling to understand why you are finding it so difficult. I use iPhoto, export - to my zenfolio account. Can't be too difficult to send them to Flickr, if that's what you want to do.

Hi mate...I'm also in the same boat as yourself. Until Christmas I was an iPhone and instagram 'photographer', but really wanted to take some decent shots. I bought a Canon at Christmas and discovered these forums this week.

I would also say, be fine to make loads of mistakes and learn from them. Also realise that good things come to those who persevere.

I'm also discovering what a nice community this place is, and they've helped me out quite a bit already.

Stick with it mate, and you'll get there.

I am new too and even though I can definately tell I am improving I like my shots for about a day then I start to think what I could have done better and cant wait to try again...and you start to notice all the little things that never crossed your mind before when looking at photos

Stages of a PhotographerÂ’s Life as a Graph. I can't comment on the accuracy of this graph (since I'm just starting out) and I don't want to start any heated debates about the techniques and subjects mentioned. Hopefully it gives some who haven't seen it before a bit of a laugh and some encouragement they're not alone. I've looked at it a few times already (I only started learning about photography a few months ago and only got my first 'proper' camera about a month ago) and I'm already forming a very slight understanding for the basis of the graph

Its very accurate I assure you! :D :bonk:
Like I consider myself on the bottom step of being a 'good photographer' so im not bad, but heck have you seen how good the good guys are.. light-years ahead, literally! ;)

--------

Practice is everything and I mean everything! ... closely followed by thinking about it. ... as it goes criticising others shots is also good practice, try it and see.
