I'm beginning to bore myself a bit now with all my questions but...... :)

Any good advise for leaning bird songs to help with id's, I've been on the rspb website which has a song for each bird which is quite helpful, but that'll be no good to me in the field :). I was wondering if there were any good phone apps or the like I could have with me.

Thanks........again!

My friend has an ipod and he got a British bird song of, Ill ask him what its called but should be easy to find I would think

Cheers guys, I'll look into it. I have an android phone, there only seems to be the American version of units on the android market :(

Cheers Joe, I'll give that one a try, it's only 59p after all :)

I've Bookmarked that site as well thanks Martin

It's a shame they haven't got the uk version on Andriod, I downloaded the free version of the American version and it looks pretty good.....Oh well.

Hi Joe, I'm really liking it at the moment, well worth my 59p for me as a complete newcomer :).

There's loads of birds on there, wouldn't like to guess at how many but got to be at least 2-3 hundred. There's also tabs to split them into "resident", "summer", "winter" and "passing". There's also a family tab and yes there's a search function as well.

Each bird has Name, family name, description (some more in depth than others), size, UK distribution and migration. Each bird also has one song and a few images (again some more than others).

So all in all worth 59p I'd say :D

Just realised, I haven't downloaded the one you mentioned, I downloaded this one http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/books_and_reference/birds-of-britain_calmp.html

I might have a look at yours as well, feel like splashing out :D

Just downloaded the "BirdsUK" app, and to me although the birdsuk app is rated higher the "Birds of Britain" app is better, much better functionality I think.......I even got a refund on the birdsuk app ;)

I may re-download it at some point as it has a check list for spotted birds.

Thanks for the info Gary, so it looks like "Birds of Britain" is the best for android, for now, how big a download is it & can it be put on the sd card?

Hi Joe, it only seems to be taking up 4.95mb although it did take a fair while to download files after it was installed, 1600 took about half an hour. Don't seem to be able to move it to my sd card though.

Hi Gary,

I know your asking for something portable but I'll throw this out

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DVD-Guide-to-British-Birds/dp/B001NFJKZ2/ref=pd_cp_d_h__0

as an additional help for both a visual aid and learning bird song's and call's. I had this one before getting the birds of Britain and Europe one and it's an excellent tool. A few of the commoner species to begin with each day and gradually you'll begin to put the call with the right bird.

Thanks for the response Mex, I'll keep that in mind for when I need more, at the moment I'm quite happy using the 59p app, I've got a bit of information overload at the minute as a complete noob to the bird thing :)
