LC's 52 Shoehorns for 2016 : Week 52 - Celebration

I didn't realise I hadn't responded to any comments so far this week. Maybe Because Work.

Shame with the mist inexplicably absenting itself but excellent lighting picking out those webs Tim ... makes you imagine something Spooky happening on the other side of the silhouette.
That was the plan :)

:muted: :schtum: :D

Nice light Tim :)
Have speedlight, will use it.

Works really well love the blue flash light, excellent
Cheers Allan, I had the choice of blue, yellow or the plain flash, I thought that blue would work best.

Love that idea Tim, works very well, the chosen grave stone is a good choice, and I really like the back lighting (y)
Ta DK, It was also my thought that a cross would work better than a standard tomb stone.

Nice job ... I think that passes as .... spooky
:)

Nice one TIm, the blue back light works well for that classic horror movie effect.
I was channeling a "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" vibe.

Works very well Tim! Great light effect and the cobwebs add to the spookiness.
Yes, the cobwebs were a happy addition

Great Effect with the lighting Tim ! Almost a blue mist of your own with the magnifier!
:)

Cracked; love both shots the long exposure makes both the steam and smoke smooth dreamy effect

Spooky; excellently thought out and set up. The back lit and the cobweb makes an eerie and scary image.
Ta Stan. I'm pretty pleased with the images for both weeks.

Love it Tim :clap:absolutely spot on for the theme and a great idea.
Thanks Susie

Yep, just a shame you didnt have a spare C02 fire extinguisher for mist.....
Hmm, firing flash guns in a graveyard felt odd enough, not sure I would have felt brave enough to add my own mist too.

Great Image for Spooky Tim fits the theme perfectly.
Cheers Mark.

Great choice Tim - couldn't have been more appropriate. Like the PS processing.

As Andy said hard to crit, but there is something not quite working but bang on theme

Not an easy one to crit, I like the idea, but feel a closer composition with the poppy a little darker.

Regards.

I love your spooky submission - so well set up and the cobwebs finish it perfectly. I agree with the comments above about the opacity of the poppy, but a very moving image.

Interesting that you all think the poppy should be darker. I was aiming for a very subtle addition of the poppy, personally I don't think going darker would help.
I could have a play with the blend modes, I'm using soft light on it currently.

Nice submission Tim :)
TBH I don't actually think the poppy adds anything though, and possibly detracts.
It say's it all without

Maybe you could have erased part of the poppy so as it looks like it's behind him.

I love the posing pig :)

I'm with Cobra on the News shot, I think the sculpture speaks for itself and doesn't need the poppy.

The sky in the original image is very flat - it was just a perfectly clear blue sky, so the Poppy and associated field adds some texture.

I dont think it needs to be darker, I think the above comment hits the nail on the head

Im with Cobra....

i was going to guess LIQUID was a cat as it was purr-fect..
Hehe, though to be fair, Steam loco's Bark, rather than Purr ;)

Good choice and put together for a tough theme mate (y)

Very nicely thought out image for News Tim great processing

Good point, something to consider for my next composite.

I love the posing pig :)

The first comment on Mr Porker. A bit overshadowed by the Remembrance statue. Winchester does seem to have a fair number of pieces of civic art dotted around.
The light could have been a little softer, and I would have liked to have been able to throw the background out of focus, but I only had an f2.8 with me so it wasn't going to happen from that angle.

The Poppy shot does seem to have been pretty Marmite, but I think I'll let it stand with no further edits.

Week 47 : Young

The BR Standard 9F class was the last class of Steam locos to be built by BR (at Crewe & Swindon)
92212 entered service in September 1959 (Dieselisation of British Railways started in earnest in 1958 following the 1956 Modernisation Plan) and was Withdrawn for disposal at the Young Age of 8 years, 4 months in January 1968

92212 was lucky enough to be bought for scrap by Dai Woodham and then saved for preservation by the heritage movement.

Here, standing at rest in the yard at Ropley MPD ;) on the Watercress Line

Nice train!

I usually like train colours, green, red, but this looks just fab in B&W. More creative flashery? (y)

Nope, no flashtrickery here, just making use of the ambient light and a tripod.
The yard lights are sodium, and the loco, plain black (as it's a freight loco). The only real work on the shot (other than the crop) was a little bit of white balance and then the desaturation. B&W worked far better on this one :)

Very good picture of a train, you have used the ambient light well to highlight it, what was the view from in front of it like, not that I think it will improve it just interested

Staying within the public area, the angle and perspective would have been wrong, and I don't have a PTS, so not allowed trackside.
(The work I do at the MHR is on-train only, so no need for a PTS, conversely, I can't wander into areas I shouldn't be in because I "should know better")

Great processing Tim, with the water tower and signal arms, it could have been taken in almost any era :)

That is a wonderful image Tim, and your challenge of doing all trains is going great !!! love the angle, how it fills the frame to the left and narrows as it leads away, the starburst of light stopping you when you get to the end too, cool lighting over the whole train and set off nicely against the dark background too

Brilliant image Tim - excellent in b&w with details discernible even in the dark shadows. Starburst and it's reflective trail create the extreme of lighting contrast.

Great processing of the train photo, very nice low key image.

Cheers. That was kind of the idea. Nothing really gives it away (except that the lattice bridge you can just about make out would have been at Kings Cross until a few years ago).

Very good indeed, I like that a lot (y)
Ta Chris.

I make it only 30/63 images that are of, or contain trains ;)
The image is a crop into the original shot, but I tend to shoot wide so I can correct any distortion or wonkiness. I was aiming for the effect I've gotten and also wanted to see how the new camera handled low light (from an focus and long exposure perspective).

Thanks. I've quite pleased with how it came out too :)

Cheers @brrnd

I really like that Tim nicely composed and the B&W conversion really adds to the feel of the image.

I love the star burst form the light sort of has a stage spot light feel upon the loco

There's a wonderful feel to this - so much detail picked out by the light against the dark background. Great starburst, too :)
The new 80D is a much more accomplished camera than my old 1100D in light like this. Couldn't have done it without my tripod though

I'm beginning to quite like long exposure shots like this, let's see what the weather is like this saturday, I may take some more.

Lucky you Tim a private gig.

Good take on the theme (all saints are more my era.........:exit:) but I do like a bit of madness (well I wouldn't be taking part in this challenge would I??:D)

As you say its amazing what you can achieve with a smart phone I've just changed from an I phone to the Samsung S7 which apparently can shot RAW.

I was going to ask where the train was then I noticed the underground sign so there's something train related too

And, of course, the roundhouse was originally a loco shed.

That's unfortunate to be supported by all saints but never mind, not your best as you say but a bit of youth culture works for me
