LCD to viewfinder converter.

It seems they vary wildly in price and quality. I had a good man on my 7d and it was excellent, I hadn't realised it cost so much

It's only for a compact if the sun gets too bright so I'll probably try out a cheap one first.

I wear (or carry) a small black scarf. When the sun gets too bright for my LCD or EVF (I suffer from spectacles) I just pop the scarf over my head and the camera. A tiny version of the old Victorian black blanket over the photographer's head. Works very well.

Alternative solution is a delkin pop up shade:

You can install them reversed on a flip up viewfinder to make a sort of waist level pop up hood.
There used to be some that were a little bellows with a magnifier.
