The advent of video on DSLR’s is to some a rather strange idea; after all still cameras are for taking photographs and video cameras or for movies. Yet this additional function has created a problem in that you cannot use the optical viewfinder of the DSLR when in movie mode, you instead use the LCD screen. But the screen isn’t that easy to see so LCD screen magnifiers were introduced to making filming easier. But is this of interest to disabled photographers?

Well if you are visually impaired yes as these devices also act as a magnifier often with up to 2.5x magnification, not an awful lot but of help to many people with poor vision.

There are a growing number of these devices around the Genus Loupe LCD Viewfinder being just one example. These aids appear to be widely available so talk to your local dealer and also search the web. Be sure to try the device out before you buy it as it may not work for you.

Has anyone out there with a visual impairment tried this combination? How did you get on with it? Has anyone experience of using any other similar device?

Hey Chris :) I'm looking into buying one of these LCD magnifier's at the mo. Theres alot on ebay but I'm not sure how well made these things are.

I'll first state that I'm not visually impaired and don't yet need spectacles (I suspect it won't be long though :()

I wanted a LCD loupe for Liveview focussing with extreme macro and I tried an LCDVF first. It was okay but lacked the finer point of adjustment and build quality. Rather than move up in steps, I took the plunge and bought a Zacuto Z-Finder.....well built, crystal clear and works like a charm.

Please ask if you need any more information.

Bob
