Well I was told this was essential for wildlife video, as you can't zoom in on the LCD since things change so quickly.

I was looking at the Zacuto Z-Finder - very expensive!!
Today I tried a Hoodman out however, not even made for exactly this but the magnification made focussing sooo much easier.

What products are there available as alternatives to the Zacuto? I'd rather not break the bank.

I use a LCDVF, great product for the price.
 
HERE is all the information you should need. You really need your eye up against the LCDVF to see the full screen, if you are trying to look through the eye piece from a few inches away you wont be able to see into the corners of the screen.

This is the same with all view finders, it's like trying to look through your camera viewfinder from 6 inches away, it just wont work.

Thanks for the link. They look like a possibility.

It wasn't so much that I couldn't see the screen. It was as if the glass was curved to magnify and looking anywhere but at a tiny spot straight above was bad.
