Question for all the Hilite owners, how do you guys clean it? Im looking to buy one and wondered if this is an issue.

I've never needed to clean the background only the train.
I normally use water and baby wipes but there have been a couple of marks I ended up using white spirit for. It worked and didn't seem to damage it. However, not wanting to push my luck I just emailed lastolite and they said...

"WD40 works very well at removing stains and is safe for use on vinyl, however you'll need to make sure that there is no residue left behind."

Not tried it yet myself though, although after my last session I may well need to!

Thats great, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Just bought a secondhand one, the train has needed a good scrub. Googled this and so tried wd40 but that wasn't that effective. Tried some terps which has done a little better but still not perfect. Any more tips from anyone?

It's not too bad, I will light it anyway so you won't see it.

Depends on what's caused the stain really, most Hilite trains I see have friction marks from heels and so on.

I would have tried white vinegar first, definitely not WD40 as you'd have to clean it at least twice to get rid of the residue. Maybe Acetone if you've got glue/paint on it, I don't think it'll react with the vinyl but may dry it out (in other words, double check before you try that).

Pretty much shoe marks. Hosed it down well afterwards and left in the garden to dry out. Hope ok when I get back as the sun has helped open a few more beers than I had planned..

It hasn't got it all out so I might try something else if it bothers me.

baby wet wipes for the HILITE all the way! worked a treat on marks - it gets marked by sweaty dirty hands when putting it away. The train is easier, bathroom cream cleaner the smooth type! a light abrasive but removes heel marks and shoe marks black smudges from shoes...

Works a treat.

Thanks all for your ideas, I shall try each one until I find a remedy next week or so.
